Login captcha

How many attempts do you get to log in before you're given the captcha to enter as well? I often save the password in firefox and this morning visiting the site it had logged me out, and offered me the login page with the captcha on it because I'd exceeded the number of allowed attempts at my first attempt?

I've had it happen on one attempt as well but other times after 2.
