Locky lock locks.....

Well, I noticed a few things recently with the z and thought I may have one of those electrical gremlins hiding somewhere and this morning it looks to be true.

1) my windscreen wipers always work, but sometimes they pause or park in an unusual place, then start working again.

2) when pressing the unlock button on the key, it doesn't unlock. Well, only the fuel filler flap does. This seems the be the case with both keys. Once I let myself in with the key, I can't open the passenger door and the interior lock switch is inoperative.

3) the one touch function for the passenger window works intermittently but only going down, never up.

Normally, this would just be an inconvenience, but I have a box fitted on my car as part of my finance agreement. Once a month, after the repayment has left my bank account, they text me a 9 digit code. I use a wireless remote to enter the code to the car, which removes the starter motor inhibit. The theory is, if you don't pay your repayments, the car is immobilised and the finance company can collect if you fail to pay. It's all well and good, and causes no problems. Unless of course, your cubby box between the seats remains locked with the input remote stored inside.......

Anyone know how I can break into this without damaging anything? I can't get the car into BMW until 02/09/13 and unless I put the code in before 19:00 this evening, my car is immobilised.

1) windscreen wipers have a tendency to stop in various places, there is a tread on here in the how to section about fixing them, is the grease inside the motor causing the problem.

2) you may need to recode the key for central locking or have the GM5 module recoded by BMW, it may even need replacing :(

3) one touch function on passenger may need resetting.

Check battery connections as a poor contact could be causing all this.

If your talking about the box between the seats where the cd changer sits... mine no longer unlocks, have not got round to fixing it yet but easy to access. A small flat screwdriver in the top just above opening button and gently force it open...

Regarding the cubby - if you can get in the boot there is a manual release in the centre of the back wall of the boot behind the cubby. Looks like a round button, but you pull it. Not sure if it opens the cubby even if it is locked, but worth a try

The issue with the GM5 module (if that's the problem) is usually relays going bad, there is a UK service that will replace these, search this site some.

About the cubby lock, as Bing said, there is a manual release in the boot. Once you pull the slack out, it takes a firm steady pull to get the lock to release, you are working against some significant reduction gearing inside the mechanism.

You're full of useful info bcworkz, do you work for BMW?

PS: nice warped sense of humour over your location in your avitar
