Locking Wheel Bolts

Just wanted to explore what other members are doing in relation to increasing the security on their alloys. i notice that the stock OEM wheel bolts have very few combinations and according to reviews I have read are reletivly easy to remove to the detemined wheel thief.

I am therfore considering purchasing additional locks. The locks that I have seen, McGard seem to fit the bill, but I have some questions that the forum maybe able to answer. obviously if a really determined thief wanted to remove the wheels, then he would probably succeed but I wanted to a least make them think again about taking my wheels.

1) With the increased weight to each wheel by the heavier Bolt. will this cause adverse effect on the steering/tyre wear etc?

2) will the wheels require to be re balanced?

just using the OEM with mine :?

1. I would doubt very much this would be noticeable...

2. they dont balance the wheels on the car anyways so why would they need rebalancing?

1) you are replacing a bolt with a bolt, you might as well be worried about the weight difference between a new tyre and one worn down :P
2) as above
3) If you live near tea-leaves it's nothing but a good idea, however as i found out when i lost my locking nut the fact they are generic means you can easily get a spare from bmw
