Locking The Car With Hood Down

Living in the sunny UK (joke), I usually put the hood up and lock the car before going: does the alarm work OK if the car is locked with the hood down? And how sensitive is the alarm; if someone places their hand inside the car would the alarm activate?

Nice photo :P

I guess you simply use your fob key as if you were opening the doors in order to deactivate the alarm...

:D

yes, once the alarm goes off (it's a bit disappointing the noise it makes),
you just stop/reset it by pressing the round 'turn on alarm' on the fob key a couple of times. Not sure of the exact sequence, I just pressed it repeatedly to turn it off as quick as possible.

EDIT: The round 'turn on alarm' button, sorry!

I wish mine had that. I left it down, reached in and hit the unlock button. Maybe I should just try climbing in the drivers seat

I've got a firend with a very nice E-Type. He has had some from proximity alarm fitted. When it's set if someone leans over the car or reaches in it speaks a warning something like "this car is alarmed please step away from the vehicle" if they don't move the alarm will go off ... it's great to see people's reaction to the car talking to them! :)

Yeah, if that happened in certain areas I can tell you the response... they would write something on the side of the car with their key... it's a gimmick!

No kidding, having alarms that talk to you give a kid more of a reason to keep hitting your car. I know because a cousin of mine has it and whenever we go to family parties, all the kids are always tapping on his car to see what else it says. :|

Wouldn't leave mine with the roof down for more than a few minutes, and not if I couldn't see it - so many low-lifes around these days, to spit/throw litter/throw eggs into it, it's not worth it, especially when it only takes such a short time to put it up. The SLK takes 30 secs to go up, yawn feels like a lifetime if you do it sat at the lights and they change before it's finished

Talking alarms - bad news

A very good point indeed. There are hardly anysafe places these days. You certainly need to be careful & vigilant, at least in many parts of the UK!

Motion sensor is not all that sensitive. For example, if you have your radar detector on top of the windshield, say goodbye to it. Removing it won't trigger the alarm. However, any movement around the center console will be detected as the sensor is located under the armrest. As previously stated, it would be best to test out which areas are covered.

i was actually under the impression it was a seat sensor instead of volumetric? you know, those annoying things that beep because you've placed your laptop next to you on the passenger seat ? =)

I thought you could probably lean in all the way, but if you sit on the seat it will go off..

In my experience i would never leave my car with the hood down when i park it in public places. Too many hoodlums around and worse someone might take a dump in your car ( hahaha no joke! had that happen to a friend who left his sunroof open)

That said, there was this one time i tried leaving the hood down and locking it to make a dash for some coffee inside starbucks and found out the hard way that the alarm was so sensitive that even a fly could set it off...very embarassing..
