locking my roadster with the top down

Reading another thread has prompted me to ask this:

Occasionally I leave my roadster parked up with the roof down. I used to not bother locking it because - well the roof was down, all I did was put any valuables in the glove box and lock that.
However I tried locking it (with the remote) and it locks the doors and also the centre console and also the boot release. So now I remote lock the car even if the roof is down.

Question is - what happens with the motion sensor and the red blinking light when locking the car with the roof down. Or doesn't the car have a motion sensor alarm?
 
it does, as i put a plant in mine last week when coming out of tesco & the alarm went off (it was locked with the key)

Just press the button twice when your locking it if your worried (it turns the motion sensor off)
 
I had mine parked up with the roof down at my mates house and his cat jumped in and set the alarm off! Probably better than putting the roof up and it getting cat hair or even worse scratches in it

Right - press remote twice. I've been locking it normally (one press) so I guess I was lucky the motion sensor didn't go off with the roof down, cheers :thumbsup:
 
I lock mine with the fob. The motion censor is not very sensitive. may just be my car. I can reach into the side pockets for my sunglasses, from outside the car, without setting it off. I do have very long arms before you ask. :D I have set it off chucking stuff onto the passenger seat. :roll: Didn't realise you could disable it, handy to know. :thumbsup:
 
Handy being able to disable it - for example, on a ferry. If you don't the motion of the ferry sets it off. Whenever I leave my car with the roof down I leave the windows up. Makes it harder to reach in the car, and every time I have tried it the motion sensor set the alarm off. Oh, and I leave the alarm enabled with the roof down. Though it doesn't really matter because, even if it's locked, if your car is nicked whilst the roof is down then I am pretty sure most insurance won't pay out...

As Bing has said no need to disable the alarm with the roof down. The interior motion sensor really isn't that sensitive.

When I viewed the car the guy dropped the roof with the key fob, for the love of me I just cannot get it to work no matter what buttons I press. My Car is 3.0 SI Sport 08 year

only if 'comfort open' has been enabled by coding. I believe it's disabled by default (certainly was on mine until I attacked it with NCS...)
 
Yes it works so must be coded. Can you lock it the same way is there a comfort close.
 
As mentioned above, you'll probably find in the small print of your insurance, not insured if left with the roof down. :?

A bit confused, are you saying it works or it doesn't work? Or are you saying it works now that you press and hold the lock button, and you just didn't know that before? Nice bonus if your car was coded :thumbsup:
 
Yes it works I just did not hold the button down long enough. Just thought can the roof be put up in the same way.

Ah, sorry, I had my coding options mixed up. You can put the roof down by default (by pressing/holding the lock button), but putting the roof up is a coding option and is usually off by default. I had to enable the 'up' function through NCS for my car.
You can also get other 3rd party devices to add this functionality (gaptech/intravee?)
 
Have had my Z4 about four weeks now. Today, I locked the car with the top down using the fob. When my wife and I came out of the restaurant, she reached into the center console before opening the door. The alarm startled her and impressed us both.
