Locking it without alarm for ferry crossing

Going to take the Zed to France on P&O's finest ferry service.

Once on board, how do I lock the car without setting the alarm - I guess it has motion sensors which will set the alarm off every time the ship hits a wave :?

Lock it twice with the key and it should disable the motion sensor.

I forgot on the outbound ferry in choppy November and the alarm didn't go off once :)

I've heard a rumor that if you "double-lock" (hit lock twice in succession) that it will disable the alarm. I have not confirmed that though.

Who cares if it goes off? The car decks are locked and secured the moment people are off until it lands. I've crossed a hundred times, sometimes I leave cars unlocked others just normal 'blip' lock

Press the lock button on the key twice, this retains the immobiliser but switches off the alarm. We had a sensor that was setting the alarm off all the time so this became normal procedure until it was sorted, I also use it for the odd time my Bull Terrier is in the car...like anyone is going to try and steal it then :D

I used to use the "double blip" on the key to lock without the motion sensor. When you lock the car normally, the clowns nose flashes as usual. When you disable the motion sensor by locking twice in quick succession, the clowns nose will illuminate for a second or two before it starts it's usual flashing. I've used this on my 3 Series to travel on ferries and to leave my dogs in the car without the alarm going off. I just tried it on the Z4 and it works the same.

Recent 12 hour overnight ferry crossing from Zeebrugge to Hull. Forgot to disable alarm on z4. Reasonably rough crossing - so I guess the alarm was going off all night. Result = completely flat battery. Embarrassing moment as I was pushed off the ferry in Hull. I spoke to BMW... they confirmed double clicking "lock" will disable the motion/jacking sensors but leave the alarm/immobilizer armed.

Your call

<edit> TBH - the amount of time it takes to cross the channel what's the issue? So the alarm goes off? So what? She'll still start :driving: </edit>

I know that the double tap locks the car and disables the motion sensor - but I've got a smarttop module fitted and the double tap is also used to fold the mirrors - I sometimes want to fold the mirrors but I don't always want to disable the motion sensors.

Unfortunately a 400 mile run for me otherwise I would !
Ferries aren't the safest or door ding free zones. A car was parked within 400mm of my door last August :(

If you stand on your left leg, close your right eye, rub your tummy and pat your head whilst pressing as many key-related buttons as you can find, you will be able to have your mirrors sticking out and your motion sensor off.
If you want to know what happens when you stand on your right leg and close your left eye, pat your tummy and rub your head - you'll just have to try.

By the way, the above only works on ferries! :D
