 i'm from the bay (california)
so i did it.. the un-thinkable :headbang:

never did i ever think that i would lock the FUCKING keys in the FUCKING trunk. wow. im amazed with myself. i wasn't even high nor drunk. i was 100% sober and happy.

i go to my trunk to take pictures of something i had in there for somebody.. i absentmindedly set my keys down in there.. and BAM. slammed the trunk closed. reached in my pocket... and what? NO FUCKING KEYS. oh wait... ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE!! gave my insurance a ring... they sent one guy out. he could only open the car doors. but still.... the trunk did not open. the only solution....... i have to go to the damn dealership nearby and have them make me a mechanical/valet key. f**k! :headbang:

no worries... i have all day saturday to do this. but still... it's all a nuisance.

question though.... how much are these damn mechanical/valet keys?????

EDIT: no spare key. i will have one soon, and the missus is keeping it so that my dumbass doesn't do something like this again.

thank you for reading*

It had happened to me also. But i did have a spare key at home :) .

Yes you can open the trunk by the button, as soon as the door has opened.

i locked the car with the key. the guy opened my door with long metal rod that latched onto the door handle. i tried to press the trunk button... no go. i pressed the button in the middle for the doors to unlock.. no go.

the car is pretty much out of commission. the doors open.. but i cant do anything else.

went to a nearby dealership. they cant make keys right there on the spot. didn't know that. :x

anyways, the guy in the parts department turned out to be the manager and he ordered me a spare key for 70 bucks. i just have to wait 'til wednesday (maybe thursday) to pick it up.

ah.. the waiting game. i DO have a relative's truck to use in the mean time. and LUCKILY.. my Z is parked at home for the time being. so i would say i'm fairly blessed.

but damn.... facking key

Several years ago, had my 325Ci in for service. The dealership did the same thing-locked my keys in the trunk. A very humbled service adviser called me up and asked if I would bring the other key and open it up for them. I laughed and was glad that *I* hadn't done it.

If you take a spare battery and some cables you can remove the trunk release switch and put a feed through the connectors at the back of the switch using your spare battery. An alternative is to run a live feed from your cars existing wiring. Either method will open your trunk.

BlackSapphireZ,

i ended up not getting the electronic key. just a regular-schmegular key.

70 didnt hurt to pay. but i definitely would have been nice to pay 35.

Keys in the UK are £95 IIRC, so about $180.

Sounds right to me and a max of 5 from the German warehouse in the lifetime of the car, after which a complete new set of locks.

I would have def gone for something along the ideas Curtis suggested to power up the trunk release. Can't be more than a 5 minute job.

so... i got my key today. it only took 'em a day to ship it out. i like that!

went home... tried to open the trunk.. didnt open.

started the car... (oh yea..... i love it). pressed the trunk button... it opened. :D

got my keys... and gave the missus the spare key. i shall no longer be locked out of my car. she's responsible* :P
