Locked in the Zed!

Not me but my 2 year old grandson Jack.
We were both in our garage at home, me tidying up and him playing in the Z with the roof up and windows closed and I suddenly heard the dreaded click and the flash of the indicators meaning the car was locked with him inside!
Normally not a problem, go and fetch the spare keys and let him out.
Not this time, as all the three keys I have were on one ring ready to hand over to a dealer later this week (yes I'm P/Xing the Z but that's another story)
Wife was with me and we spent the next 10 or 15 minutes or so trying to persuade him to press the unlock button or pull open the door latch.
Neither worked but he has done both of these before.
Anyway although Jack was still enjoying himself, panic mode started to set in and my wife called the police.
Eventually (it seemed ages) a squad car arrived and two uniformed male officers tried the same tactics we had without success.
Poor Jack was now getting a bit upset and the it was clear the police had didn't have too many ideas, there was talk about breaking the door window as a last resort, so I forced the window glass away from the hood with screwdrivers and a wedge so the was about a 12mm gap.
The idea was to get Jack to pass the keys through the gap, but he was getting passed listening to reason.
My concern was that he might let go of the keys and they fall down the side of the seat.
I then made up a longish hook from a wire coat hanger and tried to get him to put the keys on the hook.
Eventually the keys ended up on the seat, I extended the hook by another few feet and one of the cops hooked them and got brought them out.
Wow relief all round. To be fair the cops were good and the tears were forgotten when they showed him all the flashing lights and goodies in the squad car.
Lesson learned, don't leave your keys where 2 year olds can get them and never tie all your keys together.
I'll be having one or two stress relievers tonight, sorry it turned out so long a story.
This is him by the way cutting the lawn with his dad.photo1.JPG

Glad you got him out in the end! Think we have all had some sort of issue when the keys get grouped before a sale. I've stopped doing it now and always have one in my pocket.

Thanks mj2k, some horrible thoughts flash through your mind like breaking glass, slashing hoods, crow bars among thgem.
Since we got him out we've looked for vehicle locksmiths in the area and there wasn't many about.
