How quick do you find it? I've got thus set up for our 1'er and the Z4, but it can be slow.
The vehicle tracking feature is most useful when your cars in the dealer for 3 weeks and you want to check in the evening that they havent take it home! Only works up to 2km I think, but thats good enough.
I'm sure I've set mine to unlock before and nothing happened...I wonder if it times out...i.e. you dont want to send the command and then 3 or 4 hours later it unlocks?

I tried it a couple of times, it only seems to work within about 20 mins of you using the car, after which the car sleeps and this feature seems to stop working. I suppose if you're in a bind it might come in handy, but its not 100% reliable and I've consigned it to the gimmick folder.
you guys are right. it's temperamental and nothing more than a gimmick. what a shame.

They say the 2km thing is for privacy reasons.....well, if you're authorised to link the app to the car, then your authorised to track it, so 2km is rubbish. It can be done, but is restricted.
If the car got nicked, then it would be really valuable. I wonder if BMW would help?

I think so. It uses the cars built in sat nav to get a location, and the cars built in sim card to send the data.
The app confirms that the command has been sent, but there is no confirmation that the car has actioned it.

You can get confirmation if you go to settings and "show history" it will tell you if the car confirmed the command or if it failed. To use this you need BMW online assist (from memory you get 3 years thrown in with connected drive on new cars) after that it's a yearly subscription that also includes the concierge service etc - again from memory but I think it's about 90 quid a year.

the locking and unlocking can be done from anywhere, it's theory is if you are on a train or something and forgot to lock the car you can - conversely if you locked your keys in the car you can still open it etc... Both of these things are available via the phone to BMW assist too

I dont see how you could accidentally unlock the car. You need to log in to the app each time and then select the function, so unless you were drunk and showing off to your mates, you couldn't accidentaly do it.
I like the idea of it picking you up though and driving home. Maybe thats in the next version?
