Location of the Clutch Delay Valve? (CDV)

a11y, is yours up for grabs too? :)
As long as we don't damage them when removing them, and everything works OK without it, then yes :)

If you manage to damage them when removing, you will have bigger problems to deal with - ie. the clutch line will have gone :D

Just to clarify on the below picture, you do need to hold the right nut steady whilst turning the CDV off with the second (17 mm, not 19 mm that I thought from memory - it is 6 years ago I did this :) ).

Jeez, went for lunch and when i came back there is like a zillion posts on here. Feeling the pressure now Ally, we better get this right or they will all be laughing at us.

Well two heads are better than one! But on the other hand too many cooks spoil the broth - it could go either way :D

And I guarantee your first comment when you get under your car is "where is all the space gone" :D

i want to get rid of this stupid 2nd gear pause!! im not that technical to get under my car and mess with bolts and stuff. can someone help? 8)

Success :D Not that I doubted our ability in the least......... :?

Well, all I can say is I wish I removed the fecking thing ages ago - it only makes a subtle difference, but wow it's some difference. Smooth shifting between 1st, 2nd and 3rd, just how the car should've been. I think Nosa's got a few photos, we just battered ahead to get both cars done quickly and neglected the camera. A couple of notes:

- access to the CDV is just as easy on the 2.5 and 3.0, but bleeding the clutch is far easier on the 2.5 (the bleed nipple on the 3.0 is almost hidden away)

- you need 2 x 17mm spanners AND 1 x 11mm spanner. None of the guides we'd read anywhere mentioned the need for this, but we soon enough figured it out for ourselves. It really isn't a difficult job.

- we didn't need to top up the fluid reservoir. Nosa lost more fluid than me but that's cos his car was the guinea pig - we were quicker doing mine afterwards once we knew what we were doing.

- Nosa now wants Eibachs :poke:

Cheers for giving me the kick up the arse I needed to actually do this Steve

was the clutch line tight after removing the cdv? does everything still fit back together easily?
I want to get rid of mine but not sure if i should just take the CDV out or get a Braided clutch line to replace the rubber line and CDV.

All I can say really after taking it off is WOW, what a difference, as ally said Subtle but boy can you tell there is one.

Ally's right I now want eibachs, In fact I am now scrapping the idea of the new alloys I am trying to get and go for the eibachs instead, the difference in the arch height between the two cars is vast,,, and as we dicovered whilst under my car the wishbone bushes are in dire need of a change

Dont forget, in addition the spanners ally mentioned you also need a 7mm spanner for the bleed nipple.

Hotride, The clutch line fitted back no problem at all

A couple of pics below, not any of the actuall spanners in action coz was more focused on the job, and some we took afterwoods at blackness castle, Ally took some as well, he was getting all David Baily on my ass tripods and proper looking camera, made my fujifilm want to crawl back into its bag,
Enjoyable eveneing Ally Cheers

The service writer at my shop described the mod as fixing the car "So that your wife can drive it". That's a little rude but the modification is worth doing.

Yep, a little sexist but I know what he means

It really was quite simple to do:
- clamp the flexible hose with molegrips to minimize fluid loss (not essential)
- use the 2 x 17mm spanners to crack the CDV loose from the end of the flexible hose (just half a turn is enough)
- use 1 x 17mm spanner to hold the CDV steady, and use 1 x 11mm spanner to unscrew the CDV from the hose
- hose will come off with CDV attached to end of it
- unscrew CDV from hose (should now only be finger tight after cracking it loose earlier)
- the end of the hose you're left with is identical to the end of the CDV that attached to the fixed clutch line
- simply screw the end of the hose onto the fixed clutch line
- tighten it up to a "nice" torque...
- bleed the clutch to ensure there's no air in the line (1 x 7mm spanner and a bit of tubing required)
- go and drive...

You might need some brake fluid to top up the reservoir, but neither Nosa's car or mine required this. We lost minimal fluid doing this and the level in the reservoir barely went down.

JUST DO IT :)

It was the bleeding part that on my old 3.0 I had the 7 mm spanner space issue.
