Loads of crap behind my dash

I have been trying to get my ipod to work with the OEM kit that was in the car when I bought it to no avail after reading through countless pages on the subject . The ipod switches to BMW and the stereo shows the play-lists but nothing will play so today I decided to remove it and reconnect the CD multichanger
I couldn't believe how much wiring was behind the radio so started to pull it out . After I had removed everything that appeared redundant I reconnected the stereo and was left with this

Obviously it has had a hands free kit fitted at some point but a lot of the wires had just been cut .There were bits behind the Stereo, down behind the ashtray and cables behind the glovebox and up the windscreen pillar that just had cut ends

I tried reconnecting the ipod kit directly wired to the stereo and still no joy so plan B was save a few quid and make the diy aux lead but after a trip to maplins for the partsI couldn't get that to work either so i've given up and its multichanger for now and buy a proper aux lead when I can be bothered
My system is Carver with DSP as far as I know

The only thing in there that looks useful is the music mute box - which I assume mutes the stereo and pauses CDs when you take a call. Other than that, there is indeed a lot of crap there !

I was rather hoping you were going to tell me how to get all the dust out from behind the plastic 'windows' on my instrument binnacle :D

Do you need the fitting instruction for OEM iPod kit

I followed the instructions and wired it correctly but it wont work either with my old ipod mini or my sons more up to date ipod . The stereo flashes a couple of times then just goes to the clock when I select a playlist and the playlists are done correctly as per instructions
I'm not convinced Maplins gave me the correct resistor so I'm going to another branch and try again with new resistor and capacitors, (they are only pennies) and try the aux lead again
