Loading music via USB

While I can happily play files a USB stick when it comes to loading them into the system I get a message to insert a USB flash drive when it's already plugged in.

Any solutions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Which USB socket are you trying to transfer the music from?

On our F20, you can play music from any of the USB sockets but can only transfer music to the cars hard disk via the socket in the glovebox

Provided you have iDrive, the USB for importing music is in the upper right corner of the passenger glove box. The USB slot in the arm rest is for playback only. Its hard to spot in the glovebox, you might have to peer in through the passenger footwell. The owners Manual should show it.

I peered and saw nothing but now I know it's there, thanks to you, I'll find it. The manual is a little vague about which USB port but this is nothing new as I had a 545i for 10 years and never felt confident about turning off the Satnav voice.

Get a torch, its in the top right of the glove box surround. Have a feel about, you'll find it. Looking at the US manual, page 103, it shows its location. Not sure on the UK manual I'd have to go dig it out as its not online, but just look in the manual for glovebox and it might have a pic of its location if you can't visually find it.

If it's there I'll find it after back surgery ,

thanks

lol well what some people have done is get a USB extension lead and plug that in, then its easier to plug the usb stick into the extension cable kicking around inside the glovebox.

e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-Type-A-Male-to-Type-A-Female-Short-Extension-Cable-0-25-Metres-/171136327778?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Cables&hash=item27d8852062

I also use a short lead in the centre console - it makes it so much easier to connect/disconnect and prevent damage to the car socket or flash drive
Got mine from Lindy and the quality is superb but they do charge postage.

I looked for it in the glove box couldn't find it...... will look again. Can someone post a pic.
IT's risking a non-claimable neck injury just finding it. Your head needs to be at mid-glovebox level twisted to the left. . It's situated high and to the right I think as vertigo took over shortly after spotting it. As for inserting anything into it I cannot cooment.
Good luck :-)
PS Some serious illumination helps.

PPS It would require serious money to get me to try ad take a pic!!! :-(

If you can wait until tomorrow, I'll take one
It's not the easiest USB port to locate but it's not that difficult .....

Here you go.
It only took me 3 months to find it the first time :?
Now you can see why a short USB extension cable is so useful!

Ha!
It's actually quite easy if you kneel on the ground and reach in across the passenger seat.
Trying to access the socket from the driving seat is almost impossible ...
