Living under a flightpath

Does anybody/has anybody lived under a flightpath near an airport ? I just wonder if you ever get used to the noise ?
 
A few years ago we had a villa in Lanzarote which was right under the flight path. I can honestly say that for 2 weeks I didn't once get a proper nights sleep for about more than an hour at a time, and it was at the height of summer so the windows had to be left open during the night.
 
I did in the past, never again. Near Gatwick that was, horrendous.

Is it LGW or LHR you are talking about?
 
LHR ... Am looking at a move to Richmond. Lots of houses for sale are under the flight path but it's still a few miles from the runway. It's fairly loud but am thinking we will get used to it.
 
Used to live in Isleworth (about 4miles out from the LHR). To start with you, it's not easy but you do get used to it.

In fact, when there aren't planes for a period of time, it all becomes eeerrrriilllllyyyyy spooky and odd.

Be thankful though that Concorde isn't still flying...the house used to shake whenever it went over.
 
Im in Richmond and I think its fine....there are no flights between midnight and 6am. Hardly even notice it personally, they are pretty high by the time they are over us. It wouldn't be such a wealthy area if the noise was a problem IMO
 
No, Richmond is ok. I was talking about a couple of miles from an airport which is horrible.

Thanks. Are you on the Richmond hill side or the mortlake road side ?Seems there is a load more noise on the mortlake road side
 
Yeah I'm on the Richmond Hill side. Mortlake Road is more Kew really?

This thread made me look out for it and I haven't heard anything all day. Sometimes you hear one when in the garden but it must depend on if they are circling and waiting for their slot perhaps
 
I lived on a Nimitz class carrier...Yes eventually you get use to the noise..Sometimes the lack of noise may wake you
 
i would have thought richmond is still a fair bit from the flight path of LHR. i once had a meeting on site (council estate) near Feltham during the day which proved impossible as we had flights coming in to land at Heathrow every 5 mins. its so loud we can;t even hear one another and i cannot imagine the kind of hell the residents had to put up with day in day out.

Not so far up mortlake road. Around the London and Irish rugby ground if that's what it is called. Isn't that Richmond ? At the weekend maybe due to low cloud the planes were very low and coming in right over the rugby ground. Does anybody live at that side ?
 
I'm by London Welsh which is just a stones throw from London Scottish, honestly we've never found it a problem in fact it's probably one of the quieter areas of London I've lived in, a main road or trainline can be much more of a pain the arse. There's double glazing for the bedroom but loads of people live here and they wouldn't if you couldn't sleep or hear yourself think!
