Every now and again (with engine off, no key in ignition) I hear this kind of whirry noise like something is being engaged by a solenoid of something

Does anyone get this? I have no idea what is relates to?!

Just after you've opened the car, when you've just stopped, or when its been sat?
Might be the air direction adjustment for the cabin ventilation

A solenoid would be a "click" (unless it was opening a valve and letting fluid through under pressure).

Yes. If you park up, turn off and sit in the car, there is all sorts of stuff still happening for a while. Mine certainly whirrs etc on its own. All normal. :)

Sounds like a servo running for a second or two? If so, it is probably the parking brake adjusting itself. It happens a couple of times after you leave the vehicle to adjust for contraction as the brakes cool.

The only sound like this that I notice is the boot locking mechanism when I shut the boot lid.

In fact this happens when I unlock the car and not use it.

I washed the car Sunday morning and every now and again the whir noise appears.

I think It's the vents closing. My mate was sat in my car when I grabbed some stuff and he asked when the weird noise was. I also had it in my old shape z4. I'd be more worried if I stopped hearing it to be honest!
