Just a little promo video that a friend and I have worked on to try promote the idea that education for finances is important, so scaring people a little bit, but in a light hearted fun way, then at the end you'd ideally tag an action to it, perhaps a little video game that teaches you a bit about APR, mortgages, what you can afford etc... but without getting heavy and boring like a lot of stuff is in that sector! Or links on to websites like money saving expert or what have you.

Also it's just a little piece of work for my own portfolio (motion graphic/design stuff), so any comments purely about if you liked the look and feel of it would be much appreciated just so I can feel happy it was personal time well spent :D

I look forward to your comments, if you have any! (ps it's not monetised and no adverts, it's just for my own feel-good do-gooder factor that I put the other message into it :) )

Ok, great facts, annoying music, facts not on screen long enough I couldn't read everything in one go. Apart from that, well done.
 
Good video but the amount keeps building, maybe you could factor in the average wage so that the amount reduces, it will be more realistic which might ring true with some people

Liam-O, that is a pretty nice idea actually...

I just wanted to balance the info on screen with being able to follow it clearly. Obviously if pausing is needed by some viewers even more distractions might not be so useful.
Maybe I can just have it ticking down and see if it feels to make sense. I might edit/upload one later for you to see...

Deep down it's not meant to be super accurate in the numbers sense. Just giving an idea that things can get out of hand if you don't think about financial choices properly... hopefully the audience who spot it's short comings are not the target audience for the main reason for this video being made, they just get to then enjoy the subtle humour hehe.


Music, yeah, it's annoying. Half our test subjects liked it, half hated it. I ran out of time listening to music to buy to go with it :D

Agree some of the text is too quick.

however, the content/message is a little to close to the truth for me, so I hope money education does happen!
 
Lol well that was an upbeat video :o

I'd just echo about the text being slightly quick for some, think the music is fine - fits the video game theme.
 
I was OK with the speed but the music was a bit irritating, but I'm not quite sure if it was a warning or aspirational? enjoying yourself racking up £3/4 million of debt without having to pay it back seems like a perfect wheeze :wink:

Actually I thought it was pretty good, I've known a few savvy people who could have done with checking it out, you know the ones, they spend all their available on cars :driving:

I think you missed the point. Or I did.

The way I took the message was that its easy to run up debt and think you can afford it....the trouble comes when one day you realise exactly how much s**t you are in and it becomes too much to bear...hence the guy killed himself. Been there myself, although obviously I didn't succeed.

I am the person at the end of your post ..spend it all on cars. I will never learn. I am proud of my car, but not my finances!
 
I see a common trend and that is that the ending doesn't seem to make it clear what the videos point was.

I suppose had it ended with a link to a game or something with similar themes, where you were asked to make choices and pick the 'right' ones, and end that game in the green, then the point would be made. The problem with these kinds of videos now is that they are designed to make only half a point, to get you sat on the edge of the seat for the next part which is usually a different type of media. When it doesn't come it feels weird.

Since this was just a concept piece we could only put a message in there at the end.


I worked on this with a friend. He works in the financial/pension consulting industry, is close to retirement, and wanted to make a message along the lines conveyed. He is promoting it at his end more directly so the fact it's missing that end is kinda irrelevant really.
Maybe we'll come back with a version 2 (hopefully being remunerated the second time around somehow!), and finish it up properly, add in the lead-on elements, fix the problems it has, and genuinely get a lot of people needing financial education being drawn into it and taking it seriously in some shape or form :D

Even if it goes no further then it at least looks interesting in my portfolio, though I hope something comes from my friends investment in promoting the idea of communicating that way to businesses/government areas dealing in financial education.


I promise the next thing I post up will be a video of a Z4 doing something cool :D
