Little Orange Lights

Does anyone know what the two little orange lights on both sides of the interior lights are for? And, while i'm at it, there is a little white light/sensor on the rear view mirror. What is it for?

The two little orange lights on either side of the interior light switch I would think are to show you where it is in the dark. If you hold your hand there you will also notice the orange light which is to provide some light on the console area at night. The white light sensor on the rear view mirror is a feature I don't have but I believe that is the sensor for the auto dim rear view mirror. Hope this helps...

Orange is definitely ambient lighting, sometimes called "submarine" lighting (may be just in UK?).

It's much more prominent in some models, such as the X5 and if my understanding is correct it's purpose is to illuminate key control areas of the car such as gearchange, but is the ideal colour not to impact the drivers night vision
