Little Gripe

Just to play devils advocate here, if BMW enabled this feature - its not just the cost of the software. They would effectively be warranting the door mirrors to be reliable enough to be moved every time the car is opened/closed - many times a day. They would have to analyse the probable failure rate of the motor and work the cost of warranty replacement into the equation: i.e. if everyone started using their mirror motor 4+ times a day because it was automatic, compared to the much smaller percentage who actually do it manually because they need/want to, the failure rate would be much higher and many more motors would have be be replaced under warranty.

If there were any doubts as to the reliability of the motor (as a previous poster mentioned) then the warranty cost would likely outweigh the benefit in terms of increased perceived features of the model and resulting sales. They are a business after all.

Sorry to bring in cold hard logic

That to me is a strange admission to a design fault? :?

Those motors should be bench tested to destruction and that figure should be way above the average use!

Listening to the motors that drive the Evoques mirrors, I think they would be man enough to move the car!! :P

When does an excitement feature become normal and expected. ABS anyone? this was an option now standard.

There is a raft of option which should be standard in a premium car such as the zd.

Im going to pick on seats

SPORTS seats is a minimum for well a sports car my first zd had electric and heated sports seats as an option then M sports came out and sports heated seats was standard in that range minus the electric movement.

10 plate had the worst seat I have ever been in, but 62 plate ms prot were back in sports seat and its heated.

But even this seat is missing lumber support adjustment which is mentioned in the manual but at least I have lower seat tilt back again which lifts my thighs and supports my body better but I could do with a bit more.

Oh forgot there is another function to alter the backrest width. Im quite thin so rattle around the slippery leather seat so could do with this but hay the sports seats now do have them compared to my 10 plate. One issue with the backrest sides I seem to catch it when squeezing behind the steering wheel, my 1st zd got worn and it was replaced under wty. I seem to be doing this again now, possibly I need to recline the seat more but I like the wheel close gonna keep a keen eye on the cream leather!!!!.

Now agianst this would be purist who would say a try sports car needs nothing not even carpet.

So we all have our own I like that, or wow thats good some of mine are

Parking sensors should also be standard, but hay we should be able to drive the car.
Full bose sound system my 1st had this and wow it was great with the 2 subs behind the seat, the current professional audio is poor not loud enough and they dont use all the available grills, this should be standard. especially as the harness is there and grills. adding 100w would not put the overall head unit cost up and I would pay £100 on top not the 1,500, its a radio not B&O sound system.

bluetooth is now a safety minimum last 10 plate did not have it but its on the msport.

hill start assist was fantastic but ive now been told not available on 4 cylinders, unsure why the hell not.

My mirrors fold/unfold when I lock/unlock the car but only if I use the fob, it doesn't do it on comfort locking/unlocking! If I hold the lock/unlock button for a second or so after the locks have operated (and before the roof operates) the mirrors fold/unfold!

STOP PRESS

I have found a little switch for the backrest width adjust wooo hooo I can now fit snug in the seat. Hi 5

all those extra's are more risks of getting something broken. Look at all those French cars out there, with loads of gadgets, but they turn up in the garage more than they get driven. On top of that, this is still a sports car... I like the fact that it's a pure drivers car. The only extra's I have retrofitted, are the ones I actually use, such as a cruise control. But folding mirrors... I really couldn't be bothered tbh...

Possibly more to do with French build quality. Every French car I've owned has gotten to about 50k miles, given a Gallic shrug, and shed most of its trim. I got to the point where I expected to come out of the house in the morning and see pieces of the car in the road and a car with a smug "who cares" expression. My how I hated those cars. A Citroen and two Renaults. Never again

Well my 1st zd4 had sat nav, and the screen light failed, so replaced under wrty, after waiting 3 months and then it could not be replaced as they had ordered the incorrect colour. Then it failed again this time 3 months before the 3 years, replaced under wrty then 2 months after it failed again. They wanter £740 + vat + 110+ vat to fit. I argued that it self had 12 months wrty and they did replace for free. I would never choose to have a built in sat nav again.

I also wont pay for anything else either I am rather cheap but I would rather have a stripped out 3.0 / 2.8 than a fully loaded 2.3 /2.0. yes I have the Msport 2.8 now but hay It was the cheapest, sub 6 month old 2.8 on BMW used books and on top of that it had only done 28 miles and my choice of colour red. just because it had 19 inch rims and Mspots package did not sway me. My 1st was a fully specked all options available and you get nothing back for it. And you do sort of miss things like blue tooth and heated seats but hay Im driving the youngest zd4 with the engine of choice so they sort of get put back in the back of your mind when you simply drive the car.
