I Really miss Little Chef. They were a major part of my childhood when on the road with my late dad and traveliing to family holidays.
My favourites were the Jubilee Pancakes and Knickerbocker Glory.

Started in 1958 by the chap who owned Sprite Caravans to cater for the explosion in leisure driving and of course caravanning.
It seems our recent obsession with overpriced coffee and instant tasteless burgers finally sent them under for good :(

Lol, I used to like the Olympic Breakfast, but I would not necessarily be a regular enough customer to keep them in business.

There is still a few little chiefs around Im sure, more on "A" roads now though
I checked, as I used to go to one on the A27 near Bognor until a few years ago. I had to go the long way around between Portsmouth and Ashford just to got past it! Last one shut January 2018 apparently. :(

I have only been in a couple of them and each time it would have been a breakfast I ordered.
From what I remember they were overpriced and the food was not great.
If they have disappeared for good I wont miss them.

I went in one once, returning from a business meeting and my fellow travellers needed sustenance.

Not impressed.

Can't say little Chef ever did it for me. Pretentious, over priced and poor quality, would be how I would have to sum up those that I visited. Not really surprised they have died out. No Rose tinted specs here. :(

We used to call them that too

I still miss 'em. I never thought of them as overpriced TBH. I am talking about when they were owned by Forte in the '70s and '80s; they have had multiple owners since then which may have affected quality and price.

Little Chef was more business related as I remember but in the early 90's they merged (took over) Happy Eater which had always been the 'family' stop with hoards of sticky handed kids charging around (hell on earth if you didn't have kids). I used to do some design exercises with my students and at the time we had a guy for Little Chef work with us; as I recall the two firms had totally different target customers and working philosophy - was never going to end well!

Little Chef’s were p!sh
We know you are bitter ATM due to your "vehicle aberrations", but there's no need to take it out on the rest of us.
They served other dishes as well as fish BTW.

Little Chef rocked; you lot are heathens :D

I’m perfectly comfortable with my current vehicle situation ATM

While I fully appreciate the sentimental feelings you have for LC, I’ll stand by my original statement - They were P!SH

Always thought they were ok to be honest, used to visit one regularly on a Sunday morning for a continental breakfast and jubilee pancake with ice cream and a pot of tea, what wasn't there to like. Shame they've gone :(

Tim.
