List of problems.. Back from dealership with more problems..

Sorry to hear of your probs John, the annoying thing is most of them are minor irritations but put together is not on. The squeeking mirrors is common, mine did it but a squirt of silicone sorted it. Had a few drips on the passenger side and adjusted the seal myself and applied some krytox to the seal and is now leak free, I think I would rather do these jobs myself than go through the hastle. Still have a slight whine on the engine when cold but it soon goes once warmed up so will see how it fares. I don't fancy the dealer guessing what the problem might be and pulling things apart. Not a criticism of you but any e-mails need to be copied to the dealer principal followed up by a phone call, need to be firm but fair in this situation. If they start playing silly beggars then get onto BMW finance and tell your dealer you will withold payments if nothing is forthcoming. If anything it will make them listen. The problem with e-mails than talking on the phone is they can just be ignored.

Cheers,

Tim.

I'd perhaps avoid stopping payments, it could be recorded on your credit history. However I have found that BMW Finance in combination with BMW UK can get things moving more swiftly, as, at the end of the day, the car belongs to BMW Finance until you've paid for it in full, and they don't want a car with issues.

What's the normal escalation path for issues of this sort? I would imagine; Dealer, BMW Uk, then.... who? :? I would keep pressing on escalating the issue higher until resolved.

2 suggestions... forward on the email you sent originally to the Dealer Principal, as this has worked for me in the past. Alternatively, phone the dealer and ask them bluntly what they propose is the best way forward.

John I don't blame you for pressing them. These aren't cheap motors. Ok, I know it's a bit far removed but if we were talking about a Ferrari etc there'd be no question about it being right, why should we with our Z4's expect any less?
Nobody is saying that it's ok to complain about the tiniest of things (I've got a moulding fault in my front bumper but it's quite small and probably only me will know it's there) but these niggles need to be put right.

Off topic again, but hopefully make a few of you chuckle...

My cars in today and I've got a loan car...Mini Clubman (fugly!!!) with 425 miles on the clock.

Anyway, been out to a site today for work and on the way back came within millimetres of writing the car off as a lorry flew round a tight country lane!

Real butt clencher!

Had I been in my Z4 I reckon we would've hit, cos the bonnet is longer!

I wouldn't withold payments as such as I'm guessing that is breach of the Finance Agreement, I remember when i signed the small print did say don't sign if you foresee future problems in not beibng able to meet payments, however I wouldn't certainly mention it to BMW Finance should the dealer not play ball etc or after a vehicle rejection?

Bit of an update for those interested...

The car is now with the dealership in Warrington.

I took a phone call Friday from the salesman who offered me a loan car for a week whilst they try to remedy all of my faults.

I was a little reluctant at first as I had to take the car but at the end of the day if it gets sorted then its worth it. Besides the loan car is quite nice.

The car is very nice. Never thought I would like big cars but I'm impressed. It really is like driving on a cloud compared to the zed (which in its own right is quite good and a big improvement on the E85/E86)

I think I would seriously consider something like this when the zeds up for replacement in 3 to 4 years as by then Im pretty sure we will have a little one to contend with (well I hope we will anyway).

So for those of you interested.. This week I will be mostly driving a 520 ed. It has some cool efficient dynamic gizmo things which give you a blue zone to keep the power in and it gives you little symbols on the dash to take your foot off the accelerator and shows when you are charging the battery when you brake or coast. Quite a cool thing and it makes every journey into a competition to see if you can drive more economically than the last :driving:

Review of it here http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/273361/bmw_520d_efficient_dynamics_review.html

John, John, John....??? what has become of you?

Let this be a lesson to any single blokes thinking of settling down. A perfect essay on what happens when a woman enters your life  (err I'm going to be in so much trouble if Helen sees this  ) John was once of a Cades wheeled, DTM exhaust black beast where getting there quickest was more important than the MPG!! To use one of your favourite phrases "Man the f*** up John!"

So very true!

Oi... Wind your necks in.. We will have less of that type of talk.. :poke:

I forgot to add that if I were to meander down that route and decide to become a fatherly figure then I would also ensure that there is some for of Cades wheeled, DTM exhaust, Brutus of a machine sat in my garage to remind me that I am indeed a man with petrol running through my veins. :D

Be careful you dont get tempted while driving the loan car.....

Last time mine was in for 3 days they gave me a new 328i loaded with toys (knowing I'm a sucker for toys!!!). This time they failed though....my car in from last Thur to this Fri and they gave me a Mini on steroids (countryman, 4 door fugly thing).

I hope they sort your (cars) issues out.

I've been driving the 320 D this week, and it's a bloody nippy little thing. I've been thrashing the arsehole out of it, and I'm still getting 45mpg, and heading for about 550 miles on a full tank. Compares very well with only 225 on the Z....

I don't like the manual seats, no navigation, non sports seats, and the blandness of it all, in that nobody gives the car a second look.....but as a run around, it's a good car. But then again as a run around, I would def not spend £30K on a car like this......I'd buy a Polo Diesel or something...

That's a long list but I've found over the years of having so called
Luxury / premium cars no matter how much money you spend a
Car is too complex and is made from so many different materials
And driven in various conditions creaks an rattles are unavoidable
I've learnt to live with them and not let them spoil what are
Fantastic cars turn the radio up or put the roof down and only go
Near the dealers when something serious happens I had rattles in
The dashboard when I first got the car they come and go I couldn't
Bear the thought of some numpty from the dealers hacking about
Trying to locate mysterious rattles.
Anyway good look I hope they sort it for you
Cheers paul

i had a 530D for a while from work and it did get a bit boring after a while...deceptively quick (the excitment seemed to come from the fact that you didn't feel like you were moving fast enough to complete an overtake, rather than the sheer speed of the thing) however, i'd consider one if the need arose...one thing's for sure, a 5 series diesel is infinitely more manly than a people carrier... :) i always think if you give in to the people carrier you're likely to end up an old man walking 5 feet behind a missus who looks like she's nicked every dinner she ever put in front of you, whilst carrying her shopping bag as well....a slippery slope!!

glad to hear your car's being looked at John, hope it gets back to you in fine fettle.
