List of likely costs

Evening guys and gals,

I know everyone has different views on this, and i dont want to start a war of words about running costs, but I think it would be a good idea to collate costs of repairs information for the z to be used as a guide. I thought it may well work well with the FAQ that being developed. I dont mind collating the things together and appreciate all weird and wonderful things may go wrong, but the obvious ones like the springs replaced, hood motor repair/replace and a few other regulars may be do-able.

anyone think this is a good idea? Mods opinion? As i said i dont mind collating the info together but obviously need peoples costs. May even expand to service costs for each main service? Not sure about the international problem, I would have to start with UK i suppose.

I'm thing disclosing model, year, engine, work done, cost. If the stuff coming back makes sense all held together?

Anyway just a thought. What do the rest of you think?

Update: 08/12/2009

Suggested headings:

| Model | Month | Year | Engine Size | Work Done | Cost |Date| Dealer Yes/No | Dealer Name | or Garage Name | Post Code |

I think it's a good idea but didnt see the original post :?

trouble is though it can differ so greatly in different parts of the country :o

I think it seems a great idea, don't know if this kind of thing has caused issue in the past?

My first one will come rolling in soon after Christmas. Some joker managed to knock my wing mirror in a car park, casing flew off on to the floor. Glass is heavily cracked (but holding) casing is scratched and slightly chipped. Will be needing a replacement...

Good news in general is that the electrics seem solidly built, the whole unit was bent so it looked folded in - but forwards... A little brute force got it sitting correctly again and all the electrics are still functioning.

I like the idea providing a format of posting is agreed and then somebody updates the main list on the 1st page

for example

Model | Year | Engine | Work Done | Cost | Dealer Yes/No | Dealer Name | or Garage Name | Cost Code/Location done

Would be nice to reference to see how much servicing/oil changes, disc/pad changes etc vary across the country and use it to compare to when getting quotes

Z4MC - New S54B32 engine - £20,000
Z4MC - New discs & pads - £800
Z4MC - New front Continental M3 tyre - £150
Z4MC - New rear Continental M3 tyre - £180
Z4MC - Replace worn rear axle bushes - £800
Z4MC - Oil Service - £200
Z4MC - Inspection I - £700

Well it sounds like it may be a starter. I have updated the first post to show the suggested headings.

I have even started the spreadsheet with mmm-five's and my contributions. I suppose this will only work if we get enough responses but I will keep any eye out for things as people post them.

It is not my intention to include tyres in this but repairs and servicing costs. Of course open to suggestions. If people would prefer to PM me their information it may work better so the thread doesnt get clogged with such posts but I dont mind either way?

Mods happy with this? Possibility of a future sticky if it works out?

If I get time I will look at peoples posts going back and see if there is anything useful but would be better if people could take the time to post with all the information as per the headings listing in the first post of this topic.

Top banana.

Put the spreadsheet on Google docs :)

The Zzzz is maintenance-wise one of the cheapest cars I've ever owned :). My previous one had 4 new winter tires which are still in my posession, and the previous one and my current one both had their passenger airbag disabled.

Aye I havent seen yours easy027 or etdlm's either. I am going to keep more of any eye out.

Anyway, anyone posting any costs?

I am up to 9 rows at the moment and they are mine and mmm-five's (£20k for an engine??? is that genuine?)

this is a good idea, unfortunetly i'm unable to input as i've not spent anything on the car since i bought it

ps i wish this site had a spell checker lol

Haven't been given the final breakdown yet as there's still some confusion over who's paying for it (BMW UK or BMW Warranty), but that's the ballpark - plus the cost of stripping it all down in the first place to find out what caused it (they still can't / won't answer that).
