Limp mode help pls

Z4 problem, any help pls.
Got a 2L that has had a couple of probs. On sat it drove approx 30miles, then wouldn't start again....the eml and engine lights were on and the starter just clicking. A jump start got it going. Now tonight after a few mins it went into limp mode with the eml light on. I'm told it felt vibrations like it was in the wrong gear.

Any ideas where to start looking pls

Not got a code reader, but would get one if it's code related.

Reading codes is the preferred start point to diagnosing what could be wrong.
You could always have a poke around in the engine bay to see if there's anything obviously wrong too.

Where are you [ref]scaff[/ref]; someone close to you will probably be able to help out with code reading?

Sounds to me with those symptoms that the valvetronic needs replacing. But without codes its hard to tell.

30 mile drive and then no start, just clicking, jump required.. First thing that springs to mind: how’s the battery?

A code reader will pay for itself in saved diagnostic fees when a light comes on and you want to take a look. There’s a fair few recommendations on here. Good luck!
