Limp Mode at high revs, E85

Hi all,

Has anyone had a similar fault? When driving and around 5000rpm is reached, the car goes into limp mode. The fault clears when ignition is turned off and on although the engine management light has now illuminated. It was previously illuminated and a code of bank 2 system too lean was shown. I put the car in with BMW a number of months ago and they said the problem was sorted but obviously not. Have just cleaned the MAF sensor but doubt this is the problem.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like a dirty MAF issue, either requires cleaning with break cleaner or replacing. I had similar issue to you, I cleared the code with my code reader and I have had no issues since. :D

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Bought some carburettor cleaner from Halfords and have cleaned the MAF sensor, so will give it a run and see. Was thinking it could possibly be the O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold as this could adjust the fuel mixture?! Will maybe take out the injectors for a wee inspection tomorrow, although the car is running perfectly until the higher rev range. Also gonna see what the fault code is, but suspect the same "P0174 System too lean (bank B)"

Cheers

Everything seems fine around the MAF sensor, all hoses in good condition and tight. Plugged in a simple fault code reader and got P0174, P0171 (system A & B too lean) and P1511 which I think is the DISA control circuit. Might take the valve out and have a look at that next as could be stuck or choked up.

If I remember correctly an error relating to DISA control circuit means that it is either failing or unit is registering as having gone open circuit? :(

Hopefully all that it requires is just a good clean.
