Limited slip diff for sale ( Maybe )

Hi guys.

I'm looking at selling my car and trying to decide if I should remove the LSD and sell it separately.

2 years ago I fitted a Mfactory lsd.

I have a 2004 3.0 manual Z. I bought a diff from a 2007 3.0si with 40000 miles on it. I built up the new lsd in the si diff.

I've done just over 10000 miles with the new diff and it's been perfect. This really transforms the car. Personally I think this is a must for the Z.

The LSD unit comes with a lifetime warranty, I have the details for the chap at grinspeed. He's the distributor for the U.K.

For peace of mind Machine Monkey has the identical LSD fitted in his car, a few other members have them too.

I'm looking at selling the complete diff so all the hard work is done. All you'd have to do is drop your one out and stick this one in.

It's about a 3-4 hour job to change.

At the moment I'm just trying gauge any interest if I do remove it. It would also be good to keep it in the forum.

I'll be looking for £700 plus postage. Or pick up from Plymouth.

Thanks Chris

It's a desirable mod, surely your car will fetch an extra £500 more with it still fitted making the swap-out hardly worth it? (in a private sale)

I'll swap it for the headlight... :-)

In all seriousness, I may well be interested as was looking at doing this mod next year. This seems like a great price compared to new, with limited use. Please put me down for first refusal.

Totally agree but at a guess I'd say only about 20% of buyers would care about having it.

Lol it's a small world Stu. Yep you got first refusal

great idea but id try to add the money onto the car sale instead of removing if you can.

i see no reason why this mod wouldn't be seen as desirable addition to the car. Time are changing now and properly done additions seem to be much more accepted by buyers and actually a USP

Must admit if I'd seen a Z with this mod I'd have been all over it.

Don't you think it puts some people off thou.?

not sure if it would put people of but i think a lot of people will just think whats a limited slip diff?

a lot will not be wanting to pay any more for it

Most people won't know what a lsd is or what it adds.
You'd only be interesting for an 'enthousiast buyers market', but the thing is, most Z enthousiasts already have a Z  (they become Z enthousiasts after they get the car)
They still want the lsd though. (see all the attention in this topic, and 700 is a very good price, considering they get the complete lollypop which any mechanic can install)
So imho it would be much easier to sell the lsd seperately than to sell the Z with lsd for that added 700.
Dropping your Z price by 700 will attract much more buyers.

Most modded cars that are sold end in part outs. Especially cars from where there's no large 'mod scene'
Subaru, nissan etc fans are willing to pay for modded cars, but the average z4 buyer just wants to sit in his car and look pretty (nofi). The throttle barely gets touched.

i remember when i purchased an mx5 when i was 18... i search high and low for the 1.8is model that came with the diff... IMO try it and see you haven't nothing to loose and even state on the add, your happy to remove and reduce the 700 quid. i think it will attract more people to the car and a lot of people would be interested more for the diff, some won't even have a clue but a good chunk will that would be interesting in the car.

Hi Yorkie,

If Stu doesn't have it in the end then I definitely will do!
You're only about half an hour away from me so would be ideal

I'm looking to do this mod in the new year, it made a huge difference on my old boxster.
Just out of curiosity why did you opt to go with a 3.0si diff rather than another 3.0i one when you changed. Aren't they slightly different ratios etc?

In theory it would be a better 0-60 time. Reality couldn't feel any difference.
3.0 ratio 3.07
3.0si ration 3.23
So nothing really in it.
