Like your views on improving the sound in my Z4

I find the stereo lacks volume and bass however I am on a tighter budget than usual. Std system

So my thoughts were an Alpine 4 channel amp BBX-F1200, 2 channels to feed the mids and tweeters and the other two for the bass speakers. Existing BMW speaker

I then thought about adding an Alpine SWE-815 sub.

The other problem is I added the BMW tweeters for better sound stage but the signal from the amp feeds the mids and then the tweeter with a xover only on the tweeters meaning the mids also get high frequency

So other option, instead of a sub would be some 6.5" components, don't bother using the tweeters. Replace the BMW 6.5" speakers with the comment ones and use the xover for the bmw mids and tweeters.

Either option would use up my £200 budget, however other option would free up boot space

Any thoughts?

What ever you do I hope I don't pull up next to you. Im one of those miserable bxxxxrs who likes the silence .after 3 years I have never switched the radio on or put in a CD .In fact wouldn't know how to switch it on.

Did you post up on Talk Audio?

Saw a similar thread there, and your plan is sound! ( )

You should be able to get a passive crossover in there to remove the high frequency from the mids, though this would be building in inefficiencies (passive crossovers are quite wasteful with power from amplifiers)

I think going with the amp, and a pair of passive crossovers would be the best bang for buck upgrade. Simply upgrading the factory speakers for an aftermarket set may not necessarily yield an improvement.

Given the cost of the amp, you'll have some left over for crossovers, and wiring. If at a later date you wanted to, you could them upgrade the factory speakers as well.
