Lightweight wheels vs coilovers

...a question for the guys that have already gone into the deepend of the suspension tuning and lightweight wheels

I'm thinking of spending some money on the zmc, however, deciding between spending on nice wheels or improved suspension components such as coilovers, is there an intermediate route to get both looks and ride?

I'm currently thinking flow forged alu wheels and uprated springs, hoping that lightweight wheels and better rate matched springs like H&R will give improved general ride.

I'm not looking to track it (hence ignoring brake upgrade for now) or get much lower than what I'd get from H&Rs as I still need to get over uk speedbumps and use multistorey carparks.

Any feedback on modding route experiences would be most welcome :)
 
intermediate route - yes, eibach pro kit springs and a full geometry allignment setup using Hunter equipment will make a world of difference for low cost outlay.


intermediate route for brakes - get EBC yellow stuff pads fitted IMHO!

I have recently replaced the OEM wheels with BBS CH 19's and also had the camber pins pulled on the front and Geo set-up (although my car isn't lowered).

Higly recommended and it has definitely made a huge difference to the car. I haven't lowered my car due to constant driving in London, on the bigger wheels the look is fine in my eyes and the Geo has made a significant improvement so im happy.

0 Toe-in on the front makes the car far sharper than before ;)

I'd be tempted to get coilovers but for road use i don't think they are necessary especially in London. If i lived in the sticks, did occasional track days and i had spare cash then i would consider them.
 
Personally light weight wheels will make a noticeable performance improvement... However going 19's will make the arch gap more noticable.

If you want to track it... Def suspension and brakes first.

Coilovers, wheels and lowering springs will not solve the rides issues with the Z4MCs suspension. Adjustable coilovers are the only solution worth considering.

Been discussed on here at length, worth a read.

Been reading up on the masses of threads on springs, I'll admit also to peeking on that other z forum :? but just wanted to get additional feedback regarding lightweight wheels.

Seem to remember a mate who has a 911 with lightweight wheels mentioning they were more susceptible to being eaten into by brake dust, so you need to keep them sparkly clean.

Not sure if this is 100% true but thought worth mentioning
