Lights pointing to the ground - help appreciated!

It's a shame my first post here is regarding a problem with my Z4, but would appreciate some help.

I have a 2013 Z4 28i with standard headlights. Absolutely love the car, but recently the lights intermittently drop to their lowest point, making it dangerous to say the least!

It's been to BMW 3 times, obviously under warranty. The first time they replaced the front level sensor, the second time the rear one, and the third time took apart the self levelling mechanism and "reprogrammed" the car. They returned it to me saying they could find nothing wrong. On the way home, the same thing happend!

If I take it back again I can see this going round in circles with them. I took it to an mot station yesterday and Sod's law the lights performed perfectly. I took it out last night in the dark, and after 5 minutes the lights "dropped" again.

Obviously I can kick off with BMW and tell them to replace the lights, switch, wiring etc but I'm hoping someone her knows more than the BMW mechanic and I can go back to them with a suggestion.....

Seeing that the level sensors front and rear have been changed already..... And both lights are going down, the lights must be seeing a signal to drop..

I would suggest its the module that controls the light signal.... Body control module would be my guess..

Have you given the surface a good clean? Waxes etc will completely confuse the sensors. Best to get that off with a bit of washing up liquid.

I know you've been to BMW, but I wouldn't take their advice....

Symptoms you describe I had as well. The rear sensor if you hit a bump goes over centre, so the system thinks the car has an elephant in the boot. When you hit another bump it may flip back over and the headlamps are fine again. There were a few postings on t'other Z4 forum re this problem. Unfortunately it seems random (http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=869955)

A temp fix is very easy. Find a dropped kerb to drive up and put the drivers side wheels up on it. Look and reach under back drivers side wheel. Because the suspension is compressed you can flip the sensor lever arm back over. You can easily see what has happened. Rinse and repeat every time it does it.

Not sure what the "proper" fix actually is.
