I have to agree its actually quite easy to end doing daft speeds once you press the loud pedal without really noticing - especially if you have the sound system on at the same time . In the Caterham with all the wind and noise it feels like you're going very quick even at sensible road legal speeds . I think you can have a lot of fun exploring the cars handling through twisty B roads using short shifting without having to max out in each gear -but that's just my old man take on driving on country roads .

My car wants for nothing as far as I am concerned, indeed when I purchased the car and not knowing how any of its previous owners had treated it, had the head off and inspected for any signs of issues. In my case rod bearings showed some so were replaced, rod bolts were upgraded and head gasket also replaced preventatively. I also took the opportunity to upgrade the cams. So, quite frankly I feel fairly confident, and certainly 'within my rights as a proud and careful owner' to extend the engine whenever I feel like it.

Listen i think you've got the wrong end of the stick here about where i'm coming from ......
I'm not having a pop at you or anyone else on here for that matter - and I'm certainly not accusing you personally of being a lunatic or irresponsible per se
I appreciate that you clearly look after your car and are a proud owner , that's great , and like you say you are perfectly entitled to drive however you choose and enjoy it -so fair play to you on that score
I do admit i''m a bit of a Captain slow cf other drivers and i don't want to judge what you or anyone else does -so yes you're right that's clearly none of my business and apologies to anyone who's upset about this -that was not my intent i assure you
I think this is now becoming a bit of a tedious and trivial thread all round -I wish i had just looked at the handbook now and not been lazy when asking about the rev lights
So perhaps might i suggest we should now call it a wrap and move on to something more interesting and less inflammatory perhaps .

Yep, fair enough. We're a prickly bunch it seems when it comes to our cars 
Summer's coming, looking forward to some ZM motoring... at full revs sometimes for me :wink:
ETA, I do also agree that in the main the opportunity to safely explore and enjoy the top end of the rev range is few and far between these days. Luckily I have some good roads near me that I know well and are on occasion free of traffic and have good sight lines. The real enjoyment of using these engines to their full potential mainly comes on track (which I appreciate is not for everyone), I generally save my 'lunacy' for there, where it ought to be.

Cant wait for the predicted heat wave this weekend to get the top down and do some serious short shifting
BTW,can I just clarify again if the orange light is really meant to go out when you hit 7,5 k ?

They actually double as shift lights in the SMG e46 M3. Though you really have to be at the top of the rev range for them to activate
