Lights (again yes I know)

So I know I've asked a few times about lighting, but I kind of have a thing about having really bright clear beams and so far it seems to be eluding me.

I have retrofitted HID's in my dips, fogs, and main beam... but the output is no where near these new laser lights you see on the road.

Starting to think the housing is the problem, has anyone any experience with replacing these ?
Is there an option out there you would suggest ?
Would I be better buying a light bar ? (or would it look crap on a z)
Can you clean the projectors within the housing, as I can't find any information about this online

Thanks as always guys,

The e55 projectors are probably past their best.
There are drop in replacements such as the evox-r that will provide better output and sharper cut off.
I plan to replace mine when things warm up in spring.

Do you have a link to these please ?

Hi mate, i emailed this guy, he can supply/modify and send out the new projectors ready for fitting price depending on if you have halogen or xenon application.

The units are setup so you can use your OEM igniters/ballasts and bulbs, however he does suggest changing the xenon bulbs if they are old as these will burn the lenses and cause the output to suffer shortly after fitting.

Email Trup on [email protected].

This is the kind of output you should receive once you've made the change.

Wow, that's amazing !!!!
I'd kill for that sort of lighting performance, thank you ill send an email now.

I've not had a reply from the email yet,,

Assuming I would have to take the unit apart myself and fit them too.

They literally unscrew from the housing and slide out and vice verser when fitting :)

Depending on how much you want to spend, I have been looking at these:
https://www.retrofitlab.com/en/aharon-evox-r-20-bi-xenon-projectors-hella-design-3.html

Some folks buy cheaper ones from aliexpress and swap their RHD cutoffs onto the LHD projector bowl and lens.

Ok so I just got this reply, got to say I'm really interested and will probably go ahead.

Hi

The setup we do is the following:

Morimoto Bi Xenon projectors with Brackets - £200

If you need me to do the cutting/trimming needed to make them plug and play so you don’t have to do that then that’s £30 extra.

Osram Xenon Bulbs are £95

D2S adaptors and high beam splitter cables are £25

Postage in the UK is £9

This quote is with you retaining your HID ballasts or we can supply New Hylux ones which are £70 a set.

In terms of fitting, Remove the front wheels and access through the hatch, remove the projector from the rear and install the new one, align them up and your all set to enjoy your headlights that actually work.

Trups
Banging! Trup is the lighting god! :)

Bit confused however, is there a wiring change because of Bi xenon or is it just a simple mechanical replacement ?

I used exactly this system from Trups on my non Xenon car. It works very well as the photos show above. Trups is very helpful if you have any issues and will talk you through if necessary. Prices have come down a bit as well - the Covid effect I guess. The wiring change in my case was a link so the bi xenon shutter works. Not sure if it is necessary on a car with Xenons already. Trups can fit (or used to be able to) if you can get to him.

Have you got images of the output like the images above? :P

Yea be happy to travel to get this sorted, where is he based ?
I did wonder about the Bi xenon, because this usually means the dips are also the main beam, so does this mean you would have 2 main beam per headlight?

Recently bought these for my main beam as I've had them before, very impressed.

Do you think they would do for the new projector also, or I would need his specific bulbs ?

Yea this is what I was wondering too - my mains are halogen so how does it change I wonder?

Sorry no, and the car is in bits at the moment so I can't get any for you. However my experience is very similar to the photos above. i.e. I could drive at normal speed at night whereas before I couldn't and any oncoming traffic was a trial. Would I do it again ? - yes definitely.

Great news! I've ordered some new units from the factory as been having issues with dip beams not working. I ordered through my chassis and they say they're XENON not BI XENON which is fine however i asked the question to an eBay seller who was selling the ones i need and he said they're not xenon so god knows what's going to happen. worse case will have to do the upgrade as soon as they get delivered.
