Light Vandal Damage....

Just been reading the thread about the crushed black z4 saying "signs of wear" and it reminded me of something that happened a couple of years back after I rolled/flipped my Focus....

I got a note from a garage about the log book being missing, this surprised me as I had assumed the car had been scrapped by the insurance company, but it turns out it was on ebay.... with the following description:

"a vandal damage car, all the panels had scratches and dents on them..."

Not sure the seller was being entirely truthful calling it vandal damage as this was the state it left my ownership in...

At some point it must have crossed his mind this car was seriously fu<&@d up and might have been more than an act of vandalism... The roof was crushed in, every panel smashed up, airbags out....

Proof if it was ever needed that you can't trust everything you read on an advert....

Frak... I don't think I will ever buy a car that's had any repair ever after reading this

I guess from the pic it was written off, if so it should be recorded on HPi as a cat C or D. Think its about 20 quid to check one and IMO everyone should do one when buying a used car. Id rather be 20 quid out of pocket then thousands!

It will definitely be recorded Cat C or D and that's why the ebay twat is saying it was vandalised, to cover his ass.

You wouldn't worry if a few scratches had been painted but I suspect his market would be somewhat more limited if he'd described it as rolled and roof crushed flat.

Seller has 100% feedback as well

Perhaps "wattsie" you should point your local cop shop in the direction of the eBay listing. They may be very interested.

To be fair, he may not know. I thought most insurance write-off's were sold through specialist auctions. He may have bought from there, in which case he should know the true history. If he bought through someone else, then not necessarily.

I'm wondering something else, why would you go to the expense of fitting the ST bits etcetera, wouldn't it be easier to fit the VIN etcetera to a stolen ST with the stuff from your old car?

I think the fact that his listing states he "bought it as a vandal damage car all the panels had scratches and dents on them" suggests he bought it and repaired the "scratches" or had them repaired.
