Life after the Z4........

After 5 weeks with the Nissan Xterra I've noticed several major differences (aside from the obvious truck vs. sports car).

I'm pretty sure my blood pressure and heart rate are considerably reduced. I don't care where I park. Automated car washes don't scare me. Hardly anyone cuts me off in traffic or tailgates me. My insurance premiums are much lower. I am totally inconspicuous. I don't even notice the 20 something in the hot rod Subaru who wants to race. This is all much different from my life with Zeddi.

The Xterra "driving experience" has surprised me. It's very smooth and quiet with LOTS OF POWER AND TORQUE. The ride is much more comfortable than the Z4. Brakes.....well...not too impressive. Overall feel though is of a vehicle that is thoroughly sorted out and it has a solid feel that is more Germanic than I'd expect. I really like this vehicle.

I considered a new X3 but frankly I would not want to be without a real low range 4WD transfer case and lots of ground clearance where I drive.

The urge to mod the Xterra is at the same level as it was with the Z4. Some things never change. I've already dropped a thou or so on little changes and will undoubtedly do more mods.

There is an terrific Xterra forum at http://www.newX.org and the whole.......gestalt, I guess you'd say, is pretty much the same as what we have at this forum.

I've really enjoyed the Z4 forum and the great people on it and even though zednik is now zedless I'll continue to lurk and post from my new perspective. When I get a 135i I will be sure to needle all of you.

In the meantime, from WAY OFF ROAD, zednik says thanks for all the good times. :D :D :D :D :D

May you enjoy all your off road experiences, my Z3 will always be on the road, although I have taken her places I never thought I would OR COULD!

Happy motoring!

You always have your six strings to get you through the times when wheels aren't turning.

All the best to you.

Greg

gotta a funny feeling your 135 will be a soft top,saw one in black a few weeks back in dublin, looked and sounded superb!

I have the Z4 for mild speed and rip fixes and the Superhawk for REAL speed and rip impulses.

An in-line 6 is nice and sedate at speed but a v-twin sportbike is necessary for real pure adrenline fixes.

Thanks for the offer Rick but I'm saving up all my Febreeze for my next BMW. I doubt that I'll need it on the Xterra 'cause that will go to the regular car washes. :D

Life after the Z4?!?! ACK - bite your tongue! I cannot imagine! :o However your above statement is how I feel in the winter time (or any bad weather days) when I am driving my SUV. I'll have to garage Bimmie here in a couple of weeks, so I can relax until next spring! :D

Anyway, good luck!

We've got an Xterra also. They're a nice drive and all that torque is great. Parking bumpers aren't a worry, I don't creep through driveways, I can see what's in front of the car in front of me. First night we had it, i took it out of a parking lot the fun way. Straight over the curb, up the incline and down into the roadway and off I went. That was fun. Biggest drawback, aside from it's performance in the twisties, is that to see the sky, i have to stick my head out the window. Ours is well Zaino'd, just put two coats on last weekend.
