My Dad really wanted a Rado after seeing them advertised in the BMW magazines they send you for 3 years after you buy a new car. He eventually bought himself one and liked them so much he bought me and my sister one. I do like them, very understated.

Oh yes, absolutely. If I can find a nice specific Carrera at a very good price it will be hard to pass up. I love my Tag diver, but getting too scared to wear it much now as it gets rarer. A fairly standard workhorse 2824-2 movement, but the crystal, gaskets, dial etc are getting harder to replace. (I posted a pic earlier in this thread).

Actually I'll retract that after seeing that picture of that collection of watches above that's pretty impressive. I have like one watch I wear everyday even in the workshop getting it dirty. It's just a 5yr old Gucci watch I don't see the point really in having a fancy watch and not wearing it daily so I do. When I want a new one I'll get one seriously though how many watched does one man need there's only 7 days in a week. The reason I found the thread odd was maybe I'm not old enough to appreciate this kind of talk yet all seems very old man like. Next you'll be comparing slippers,pipes and Viagra.

As for owning gold chains yeah I live in Birmingham so if that makes me a rude boy gold wearing chav then that's a classic one it did give me a good laugh when I don't own a single piece of jewellery. So you went on my Z4 dairy looking at my car even though you indirectly hate. See a picture with some ones business info on my screen used once for a track day. I couldn't care what message you think families following me up the road thinks as its a private track you idiot. Thanks for caring though its a design company feel free to order.

Rado was the first watch I bought before I started doing research into them. It's a quartz mechanism therefore it's not worth the money if your looking for a mechanical masterpiece. I'm glad I got mine for quite cheap. You are paying for the name more than anything. If you like the look then they are quite unique however if you don't want a ceramic watch then IMO you can't really go wrong with Christopher Ward, Steinhart, Stowa or Parnis for Value for Money. There are watches from the below 4 for any budget from £50 to £1000+ and your paying for the work and style rather than just a brand name.

I really like Christopher Ward but all of them are worth a look. For instance my £400 CW gets more use than my Rado which cost multiples of that.

You could argue that a lot of mechanical watches are not worth the money and you are paying for the brand as for many years a lot of big companies have used ETA off the shelf movements which haven't cost much in comparison to the watch price. Only recently have some brands started to develope their own movements.

You can argue that a quartz watch is not worth the money but actually it is more accurate than an automatic which will gain or loose time depending on how it's worn, how it's sat when not on the wrist, servicing etc. Also quartz is very popular with even the HG brands like Patek & AP for woman's watches due to the fact that for many women they may have multiple watches to go with different outfits.

I've had my Rado for 13 years now and it only cost slightly more than your CW watch you mention. It's like everything in life, prices have gone up over the years. And the best ceramic watches out there for quality of the ceramic and auto movements is the Channel J12 but that's rather more expensive than a CW but the ceramic is regarded as the best in the business.

I also have a ML as mentioned as another brand idej_jedi would like. Again can be rather expensive from a jewellers but I got mines probably 13/14 years ago for £100 off a TV auction site :lol:

get onto aliexpress and type in parnis into the search. exact same style and type of watch will cost you £50-£100.

parnis is the best value for money out there atm. they could easily sell their watches at double their price.
