This one could go in any number of categories but I've chosen this one.
After 7 months of argument with the garage I bought my last car from, a Boxster 3.4S, they finally admitted that the engine needed a full strip and rebuild. After a little more arm twisting and now dealing with a new guy they agreed to reimburse me most of the money it cost. Just at the same time a lovely looking Imola red Z4MR came up for sale so I snapped it up.
Just over a week after I bought it I took it to a local BMW specialist for a once over and he noticed it had a noisy Vanos unit and was in need of a strip and rebuild, £750. I contacted the Dealer I bought it from, R B Automotive over in Northern Ireland telling him that a problem had been identified with the car and how would he like to move forward with it.
His first response was quite dismissive and he offered nothing in the way of moving forward with the problem so I emailed again and asked him directly if he was willing to fix the car. He said that he did not believe that there was anything wrong with the car and that the garage was just making it up in order to get money out of me/him. After another couple of emails and a phone call he was adamant that there was nothing wrong with it and we were just trying to extract money out of him. At that point I started to involve the finance company MotoNovo.
I presented them with all the emails so far and my side of the story. Over the course of the next few weeks going backwards and forwards between me, the BMW indy and R B Automotive getting as much information as possible I was no further forward and he still maintained there was nothing wrong with it. Now with the involvment of the finance broker ManIsland Finance as well as the finance company I was asked to take the car to my local BMW main dealer for them to have a look at, they would pay so that was fine.
Shock horror they told me I needed a new Vanos unit at £2500_VAT. The information was sent back to all parties. Now because all this tooing and frowing between all of us this had dragged on for about 2 months so R B Automotive now claimed that the Vanos unit could have broken at any time and that it was still nothing to do with them. I got back in touch with BMW and explained and they said "no it can't, it's progressive"
So after another couple of weeks and a bit more arguing R B Automotive finally agreed to pay £500 towards a refurb also the Broker and the finace company would chip in the remaining £250 HOOOFU*****RA!!!!. Now obviously the story goes a lot deeper than this in places but to stop this turning into war and peace I'll leave it at that.
My experience is, R B Automotive stay well clear. MotoNovo finance were only very slightly less than useless and ManIsland were ok to deal with they at least answered the phone when you rang them.
Now the final kick in the plumbs, the day after I get the nod from ManIsland that everything is sorted I was made redundant, things are a little slack at the moment and although I've found work straight away it's a huge pay cut and the car has to go. After it's fixed obviously.
So folks opinions wanted what do you think it worth????????????
