Lengthy Road Trip - Help Me Avoid a Breakdown!

Sending it back, struggling to find a suitable thread converter. Would have to be custom made. Looks as though Cravenspeed do one that should be suitable. Just need to find one in the UK to avoid paying massive postage from the US.

Been planning the route and looks like we'll be doing something a bit like this:

I'd recommend looking up the Furka, Grimsel and Susten pass just north of the Gotthard if you're around that area.

Plus if you're venturing into Austria then the Grossglockner is well worth a visit.

How long are you planning on going for?

Thanks. The first three are on the list but presumably closed at the moment as couldn’t get them to work in google maps. Unfortunately Grossglockner will be a bit too far in terms of distance. It was either there or Monaco and Monaco has won subject to weather looking like it will be ok.

Going for 7 days so depending on how we’re feeling we may drop out Monaco as it’s a fair distance. But bear in mind we will be splitting the driving so it won’t be more than a few hours a day each.

I wanted to add Monaco to my trip this year, but was too many miles to get down there, staying at Chamonix instead.

When are you going? We're doing the Furka/Grimsel/Susten loop on 8/9th July.

Yeah it is a bit of a detour but it’s on my bucket list and not sure when I’ll next have a chance to be (relatively) nearby so hopefully we’ll have time. We’re off on 15th June so a bit less safe in terms of what mountain passes will be open but keeping my fingers crossed! How long are you going for?

That's a lot of miles in 7 days! Drove to Worthersee and back last year, stopping at Nurburgring on the way and Stuttgart on the way home, that was 2100 miles in 7 days, even sharing the driving it took it's toll. This year we're out for 9 days and 1800 miles, with only significant miles on 5 of those days to try and break it up a little.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the Stelvio! I've never managed to squeeze it into any trips.

From the top of my head, I think I've read the latest Susten Pass has been opened in recent years was 5th June. So hopefully you're okay! Grossglockner was open first week of May last year, so we got lucky.

That sounds more sensible with the mileage really. If I do future trips like this I'm sure I'll be a bit more choosy rather than trying to cram it all in. Will let you know on Stelvio. From what I've read it gets busier than the others, perhaps due to Top Gear, so I'm not expecting it to be as good as some but I'd like to see for myself.

How did you find Grossglockner? Heard good things about it but how does it compare to some of the other alpine passes?

Well the trip was successful! Managed about 3000 miles in a week so was pretty full on but brilliant trip. The car behaved itself and didn't use a drop of oil. The passenger door got stuck at one point but that rectified itself and hasn't done it again since so I'll settle for that! Lots of photos and videos so I'll upload some when I get a chance to edit it (500gb in files)! But here are a few:IMG_5457.jpeg

- Ferrari Museum Modena
- Lamborghini Museum Modena

That sounds like a great list! Fingers crossed mine runs as smoothly as yours in two weeks time...

Looking forward to Furka pass videos

Fingers crossed! What does your itinerary look like (I know you mentioned the Andermatt Loop before but anything else)? I think I may have to set up a YouTube account as not sure what to do with the files where they're so big - that's the downside of filming in such high quality I suppose but I'll get Furka on first

Fairly chilled first day to Reims, then we head to Chamonix via Lake Geneva. Then next stop is Engelberg for a few nights near the Andermatt Loop - with a day around Interlaken on the way for some Paragliding (weather permitting). Then four days at the Nurburgring for the VLN4 race, so we'll probably have a play in the Black Forest to relieve our motorway boredom.

12 of us in a 5 car convoy, should be fun!

We originally intended to include Napoleon Pass, Monaco, and Lake Como - but ended up choosing to spend more time in each place rather than a new hotel/apartment every day.

Any reason you didn’t do the BMW museum?
