Especially Dutch Lego...

In my day Lego was all about crude blocks to make things out of. Perhaps a few wheels, axles and maybe even a battery powered, but regardless you always ran out of some key colour or sized brick.

How it's morphed into a smoothed off product over the years, imho with no imagination required - just assemble to a spec.

It wasn't quite like that in my day, but it was certainly less of a marketing tool for big brand names. My old Lego is still at my Dad's, played with by his grand children now. Wee Bing's is now in the loft awaiting the same fate... It was a sad day a couple of months ago when he finally decided to mothball it. Spent may happy hours with him building all sorts :D

I do think the techic lego we had back in the 70/80's was better though. As CJ said it was pretty much standard brick with holes in where as now you buy a lego model and one model is all it can be because so many of the bricks are custom made.

Some of my sets are worth over a £100 a piece now :)
