Left Headlamp and tail lamp stay on

I don’t know if anyone can shed some light on how to diagnose a problem with my lighting system. It happened today where I would switch off the car and the left headlamp and tail lamp would stay on while the headlamp switch is in the OFF position.
When I switch it ON all lamps work also in auto but in OFF position the lights would stay on. Even when the car is switched OFF and locked. So I disconnected the battery until I find out what’s wrong.
It seems so weird. First thoughts are a short circuit? But how so sudden.

Thanks

You might have left the indicator stalk on, if you lift it up or down, the corresponding side lights, act as parking lights

EDIT, with the ignition off this happens,

Water ingress to an earth point. If you hit the brake pedal do any lights come up on the dash board at random at all?

If you take the rear lamp out does it still affect the headlight? It's weird that it's affecting one side rather than the front or back only.

Wtf? Is this for real? Do they go off after a certain time? This car is like an office. Learn something new everyday.

The idea is if you park somewhere busy, say on the side of a main road at night, you put the indicator up right hand sidelight and tail light come on, with the ignition off, push it down and obviously left side come on, and they will stay on till you switch it off

Didn’t think of that. Thanks. I’ll take a look in a bit and get back with an update

This indicator on/corresponding lights on when parked had been on many German cars for years... At least 30+ years from my own experience... Does anyone read the users manual nowadays? RTFM 😁
