Leds

Has anyone replaced e85 standard headlight bulbs with LEDs any advise would be welcome
Yes, I used Osram LEDriving. You need an adapter clip like this : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Car-B...hery-PeH-UK-/124838000711?hash=item1d10ecb847

It makes a good improvement over the halogens. An MOT tester (at a major UK chain) I spoke to recently said, so long as the beam pattern is good he turns a blind eye to the rules since they are safer to drive with than the dim halogens.

If the car fails the MOT, it's a 20 minute job to put the halogens back in.

When it comes to the MOT the testers cannot disassemble anything and must give the benefit of the doubt. So if the beam pattern is good it shouldn't be an issue. What I have seen of LED testing so far online though is that the light output is still pretty bad.

I tried some cheapy Chinese ones first - they were rubbish. The Osrams are better than the Halogens and the Philips X-tremeUltinon are supposed to be even better, but I think they cost way too much for a bulb.

 Good feedback and yes, some of the prices for well engineered ones are a little extreme!

I suppose it would be pretty hard to make anything worse than the stock halogens

Majority of the posts I've read here and in a few other places suggest that retro fit LED H7's whilst they look good when fitted compared to Halogen bulbs, are poor when it comes to actually driving in terms of light output and actually lighting up the road ahead to improve vision over and above Halogens?

For those who have fitted LED H7 kits, have you found (and be honest!!) they are a distinct and noticeable improvement over Halogens?

I'm considering my options here, either Nightbreaker's, a decent HID kit (not cheap crap) or an LED kit. Just not sure what to go for?

The ones I linked to above are, from my experience, miles better than Night Breakers (crap), Ultimate Vision(a bit less crap), or even 80w Osrams(nearly acceptable). The beam cut off is nice and clean (buy not quite as clean as xenon) and I can actually see where I'm going with other cars coming towards me at night.

Cheers, thanks for the feedback. Any issues with drivers coming the other way flashing at you due to dazzling? Also, did you have any problems fitting them, did the fan units on the rear of the bulb assembly allow the headlight area cover to fit back on without any hassle?

Never had anyone flash me in 2/3+ years of having LEDs installed.

Unfortunately the Z4 headlight design is just poor at least in comparison to modern cars, Or modern cars are just too bright! (but thats a rant for another day).

LED's are brighter than any "upgrade" halogen bulb but unfortunately still not a perfect solution.

Plenty of room for fans/heatsink on the back of the led, As mentioned above you need a little metal bracket for the z4's H7 fitment, They can be a little bit of a fiddle to fit but no more than any bulb.

Cool, cheers m8. The little brackets, what are they for and where can you get them? Sorry for all the questions!!

No problem :) No flashing from oncoming traffic, had to bend the adaptors I used a bit to make them retain properly. Plenty of room for the fans.

Just to add one more if you're still looking for info.

I recently installed these to convert H7 halogen to LED and I definitely noticed a massive difference.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/V9-CSP-LED-Headlight-Bulbs-Kit-10000-Lumens-12V-24v-Canbus-Error-Free-upgrade-/372593012558?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

I was advised to get clips too but I think they're for the OEM housing and I already had aftermarket units in mine so didn't need them.

I'm very happy with them, and took less than 5 mins to install (after 30 mins playing with the first light to figure it, but second one was a breeze).
