I have a series 8 samsung and mine looked very white washed out of the box.. too bright, and the dynamic lighting thing was all wrong.....

Went to aVForum and played around with the settings which people recommended and now have the perfect "movie" mode.

For games i find the Game mode to be pretty good.. with good colours.

... or pay £200 for someone to professionally calibrate it.

That is what I did for my Plasma screens.

+1 for sure. Well worth the outlay.

Tells you something about M owners! More money that sense! :P

Nah - we can appreciate "real world" optimum performance :poke:

I cannae find a THX optimizer test on ANY DVD I've tried so far. Any suggestions for popular titles that have it? I can see the test on the Incredibles but it won't let me access it...

Guys,

Got a new 8000 Samsung LED TV for the house, and it's gorgeous to look at in stainless steel and glass, and with Blue Ray - wow - BUT does anyone else notice that because the picture is so very clear, it almost doesn't look real - especially on films - the main characters really stand out and are clear, and it's almost like the film mode is changed to video mode - I have changed the settings loads and it does look better, but still takes some getting used to.

Anyone else get this too?

I've had this discussion so many times with people not understanding what I'm on about, I thought maybe I was going mad! Thank god I'm not alone!!

Haha I thought it was only me too!! Great tv but the manufacturers must have known this was an issue not seen on LCD!!

My description has been like you're watching a HD Camcorder image or like you say video mode. All that said amazing quality but it's like that movie magic and gloss is lost somehow with how clear and sharp the image is....... it's like technology has gone too far, I feel like an old fart.....bring back black and white tv's with vertical hold I say!

Interesting you say that as a similar argument was put against the sound of CD's v vinyl. People said the CD sound was too "clinical".

I've noticed this, it was the same with some LCD's and one of the reasons i have always favoured the more realistic look of a decent Plasma.

Oh and get me started on CD's...

Am getting there with mine - have changed some of the settings and it looks better - just so chuffed at the depth - less than a cm thick and the stainless steel finish looks amazing....form over function...same with our cars. We could buy a Boxster, but f*** that, the Z's are so much better looking......

i have an LG 47 LED and i find that anything in HD looks fake,

and playing COD on it gives me headaches.

should have stuck to my old 61 rear projection :)

the only good thing about it is watching football and rugger
