LED Side Repeaters - Project

I know there isn't an off-the-shelf LED upgrade for these so I was thinking of putting in an amber LED to get rid of the 'fried egg' look. Sadly the good quality ones have and amber diffuser. I'd also be concerned about the output not being in the correct direction for the housing lens which is designed for a bulb filament.

This got me thinking - some amber LED strip on the inside would be clear when off and probably quite a bit brighter.

May well be the next lighting project!

Why not just fit chrome w5w's? That's what I've done and you can't see any orange through the clear side repeater when the indicator isn't being used.

I've just ordered some 30 cm lengths of LED strip, one set with black backing, the other with white. If wide enough might also give a smoked appearance to clear lenses!

Do the holders twist off?

I'm going to have a look at the wiring loom and see if I can find a matching connector to mate with, otherwise I'll get some BMW waterproof ones and swap them over. There might be a gap with no strip but should be easy enough to put that at the bottom where no-one will see it!

For securing it I'm thinking some clear silicone sealant would probably do the job and be vibration resistant.

I'll keep this updated, LEDs coming from China so won't be for a few weeks. Think the hard part will be doing the connectors properly.

Equally it might turn out to be a rubbish mod!
