LED numberplate lights

I would love to have them, but the amount of times I drive in the dark is so low :D

This just isn't happening. Managed to free the wires from tue old plugs bur cannot seemto push them
Into the new connectors. They just put up alot of resistance. The picture in the thread shows the green ribbed grommet all the way inside the connector and they just won't go.

Also the connectors which look the same as those pictured don't seem to connect into the new light units.. There is a little plastic lug inside the light that stops it pushing in?

And noe I can't push the wires back inside the old plugs... Help please!!!!!!

Before to push the wires in the new connectors, you have to make sure that the white plastic bit is open. Then push the wires and try to turn the wires, til they are locked inside the connectors.

As you can see on the pic, the plastic lug inside the light shouldnt stop the connector when pushing it in. You are probably
inserting the connector the wrong way.

Thanks sref.. Managed to sort the connectors goin into the bulb holder but still can't get the wires into the connector. Te green grommets just won't go into the holes. Tried it with the White bit open even tried it with the White bit off.. Can't think what I'm doin wrong??

Got p*$$ed off and just cut the green grommet off as this was the problem.. The wires now fit like a chickens lip in a glove. :D

Well impressed with the difference over standard. Was definately worth freezing my fingers to the bone and getting drenched in that fine rain that soaks you through on my several attempts to fit them over the last two days

Here's some pics of the finished job, don't really do it justice though.

Think it helps show off the 3D plates too :D

Glad you finally fitted it. I didnt have any problems with the green grommets...
Where did you buy your 3D plates?

Heres some pics taken when I fitted mines.

Your joking.. Bunnyjoyrider and me tried for a good hour today to try and get the green grommets in the holes and there was just too much resistance. The wires would locate in the holes but wouldnt go right to the end where the pins in the bulb holder would touch them... Anyway the grommets are now gone, dont think its a problem though as the units are pretty water tight anyway.

3D plates are from Demon Plates.. £50 a set delivered so quite pricey but they look cool. Had alot of people comment on them. They do a 3D carbon fibre version aswell but thought they might look a bit cheap.

Thanks for your help anyway on sorting the lights, much appreciated

Sorry to ask the question but are the 3d plates show plates or are they road legal. I enquired a while back and was told that if the BS marking on the bottom right hand corner and a minimum of a postcode of the company who made the plates was a requirement to make them legal. I unfortunatly bought a set from Santa Pod to be told that they where not legal latter by the boys in blue. Like the lights and have ordered some from my local dealer £23.51 for the set.

Yes they are road legal. It has the bs number and company name in the bottom right hand corner of the plate

I bought a couple of white LED bulbs from ebay a few months ago (less than £10 I think). Just got round to fitting them tonight - not fantastically brighter but really smartens up the rear when compared to the old bulbs. No error messages either.

Good to know jimmypop, that was my concern and one of the reasons I didn't just go the bulb route.. Thought there was less chance of bulb failure light comin on with a BMW item.

Good for people to know reading this post that there's a cheaper option too and perhaps less fiddley than what I did. Post some pics up for us all to see and maybe a link to the bulbs would be good for anyone considering them

Will try post pics later in the week. Unfortunately I bought the bulbs about 4 months ago (at least) so can't remember who I bought them off of on ebay. If I find them again I'll post a link.

The reason I went for the bulbs is I didn't actually know BMW did an OEM replacement. Had I known that I would probably have gone that route.

EDIT: Wasn't this seller but this is what I bought.

Thats annoying.... were they sent recorded delivery?

Nope, apparently not. However, given the trouble you had fitting yours and the outside temp on the North East coast today, perhaps its for the best. So what are your tips for fitting then.....cut off the green grommet and wear wooly gloves?

I have been looking at the fitting of these in anticipation of them arriving...... a question occurs to me. Once you have dismantled the existing fitting, how will you know which holes to fit each wire into as they seem to be different colours. Is this obvious if so I'm missing it :?

Wooly gloves, an overcoat preferably with a hood and plenty of patience my friend.. Although you should do it in ten mins now you know to cut the rubber grommets off

I just put the wires in any holes. Not sure if it matters or if I just got lucky with the ones I chose? :?
