Leather Dash

I'm looking at getting my brushed metal dash and centre console trim pieces trimmed in black leather.

I was thinking of going for the alpina style stitching but just one colour leather.

What's peoples opinions on the colour of stitching i should go for?

Do i go boring and black, a subtle silver or a eyecatching red or similar!?

The car is sterling grey!

To give you an idea of red stitching, this is what it looks like in an Alpina (not my car)

That is lovely. Never thought about the steering wheel too.

I was a bit wary of going for a colour in case it didn't tie in very well as the car is grey but with the dash and centre coloumn and wheel all done it could look really good. :D

If you look here, you'll see a silver Z4 that has been mod'd as an Alpina tribute including red stitching...

Thanks for you help mate!

Awesome.

That's perfect. I have the grey plastics (but black dash) so it's good to see what it would look like.

Something else i spotted added to the list too....pull handles in black leather with red stitching!

Looks like i'm settled on red then!

Any idea if it would need to be a special leather as i'd imagine it would need to be pretty thin to ensure correct fitment of the dash pieces?

Unless you're quite skilled at this sort of thing, it's unlikely that you're going to be doing the work yourself so I'd think the best thing to do is to find a decent leather trimmer and talk to them about what you want (with pictures), if they're worth their salt they'll know what thickness/type of leather will be best suited to the application.

...and if you need your steering wheel done, Royal Steering Wheels have a very good rep

The father in law is an upholsterer so hopefully he's going to sort this for me

Just had my wheel done on Wednesday by RSW in perforated nappa and Alcantara combo with red stitching to match the Imola seats. Got a 1mm padding inserted too. Superb job. Really chuffed. Pics to follow.....

Careful taking pics with the nav showing current location if it's a home address. A quick nosey google tells me where that pic was taken...

It's OK - it's an old picture of someone else's car - it's changed hands (at least) twice since then
