Leather cracking and discolouring

Hi folks,

Upon giving my 2 and a bit year old, 20k Z4M it's first thorough internal clean under my stewardship at the weekend, I noticed that the driver's seat bolster nearest the door is going a blueish tinge, and the leather is cracked and looks as if the surface will start coming off shortly. I have cream leather. Has anyone suffered a similar problem - seems low mileage to me for something like this to happen?

I have to keep mine cleaned & fed every week. Even still, there is some wear on the bolster from getting in & out. Mine's got 16,000 miles.

I'll get a couple of before & after photos up once I'm back home on Friday.

My 04 is nearly 5 years old and seats are still like new OK she has only covered just under 19k BUT I do treat them every couple of months using LTT Leather protect quick and easy job and i will give them a regular wipe down with a damp leather.

Cheers. Looks like you have the same colour combo as me... good choice! ;-)

I nearly destroyed my light grey leather, X5 drivers seat bolster, with a combination of black jeans with studs and the lazy manner of sliding in and out. Ended up with a series of scratches and black lines. Learnt my lesson and now never touch the Z4 bolster in or out and use quality leather cleaner and cream on a regular basis.

Seems a common weakness on the Z4 and my thinking is that the dream red will be harder to match and restore than black so taking extra care.

Right, here's a couple of pictures of the only part of my seats that are showing any wear (other than normal dirt).

The top mark on the first picture actually looks like the cream stain has worn through to the base

That's a shame because your car is pristine apart from those marks

Same here, jeans with buttons seem to cause all manner of grief for the drivers side bolster.

I have been masking the horror with some black dubbin which takes out the light marks but should really look into getting some gliptone, I hear its rather good

i helped my brother restore some leather seats that had the same sort of wear. they were about 15 years old on a toyota supra. thoroughly cleaned them then we put a thick layer of shoe polish (cream colour may be hard to find??) on the seat and then buffed it all off. after a couple of applications it started to look really good. after that using he conditions ythem whenever he cleans the car and uses a little polish every now and again.

dont know what the results would be on a cream seat, but it was a cheap and easy fix for us.

you may just have to adjust the way you get in the car aswel!! :P
