i have got myself all a fluster about leather cleaners/fixers etc.

what i would like to do is two fold.

the first is give them a good clean with a decent cleaner and magic sponge. then i would like to treat them properly to protect/moisturise them

the second is the bolster is work so i would like to fix/recolor this

but i dont really know what to use ... any help?

the autoglym stuff seems a little pants tbh. most seems to wipe on and then just wipe off!

help?

The below website has all you will need.

I cleaned, moisturised, filled the bolster where it had a small hole and recolored my seats.

I wouldn't magic sponge them, believe me.

Agreed JML magic sponge took the colour out of my drivers seat, which has kinda pushed me into ordering the leather covers today and having the local trim place fit them.

My drivers seat was filthy when I bought the car, it also had a sneaky repair done which didnt show itself until deep cleaned, bolsters are firm but leather has buffed where the previous owner got in and out. A bit rubbish for a car with 20k on the clock. I tried dye but no good.

The best stuff I've found for cleaning and maintaining is the Gliptone Cleaner and Conditioner. Really good stuff, you will certainly notice the difference. If you have dirty recesses then just get a tooth brush with some Gliptone cleaner on it and gently work it over the dirt.

Domsz4 - what colour is your leather? If it was black and in poor condition I'd be tempted to have the crappy bits replaced, being black colour match should be easy.

I have sepang leather and the JML spong followed by gliptone was amazing. perhaps this was beciase they are a light colout and not black!

I have pearl grey yet thought the magic sponge was a bit dangerous. It left a test patch on my drivers seat dull, luckily the Gliptone brought it back.

I've never had a car with light coloured leather before, a lot more care needed than black leather IMO. It definitely keeps me busy.

i had a little go with the magic sponge on the drivers seat pad. I didnt press hard but the dirt that came out was amazing. ive cleaned these seats with the AG cleaner and with dilute soapy water a couple of times now but just using a microfibre cloth. i was using the stuff i bough to do the carpets and it was just to see if it was worth it. at first nothing much but then the water turned black the MF cloth i dired it with was black!

im not sure on the colour im was just about to check on that vin checker thing :) they are champagne or oregan i think

ok so after a whole bunch of sites to do the vin thing that now all seem to want you to register i found a german one that says i have

LEDER OREGON/BEIGE (LAAB)

so im going to get some cleaner and conditioner as im just not that impressed with the AG stuff. but i still want to do the bolster on the drivers seat where its worn off and looks crappy with getting in and out. so i will need the skuff master kit too..

if im not using the magic sponge would just a stuff brush do? maybe something like a nail brush or a dish brush?

would the scuff master also recolor the gear knob cover that has aslo worn in places?

I wouldn't use a harsh brush on the leather. Magic sponge is fine before conditioning just take care. Did you check my liquid leather link above? Give them a call, tell them your leather colour (they may ask for a sample) and they will mix an exact colour match paint pot for you that will do the gear knob as well. They are really nice helpful guys there.

They will likely ask for a sample as when I spoke to them they said they had hardly any if any Z4 colours on the shelf and asked for a sample.

yeah ive been looking at their stuff already thanks. how did you give them the sample .. just send off your headrest like they said? there is an Z3 oregan beige on their list

They didn't need a sample for mine (you can take a piece from the underside of the seat). I told them BMW Champagne and they said ok we can mix that. They also asked how worn/dirty the seat was (It wasn't at all just very dirty/grimey) and they said they would add in a thinner incase the sun had bleached the colour so I could get a perfect match myself. Excellent customer service and product. Just give them a call.

I maintain my red leather with scuffmaster and gliptone and great care when i get and out plus passenger rules for trouser wear allowed IE no metal studded jeans etc etc :o
i better wear my best Grundy`s if i go for a drive with you then

I second the liquid leather stuff... I used the colour matched kit on my seat after my OH sent my blood pressure through the roof... See the link below. It covered lovely and there's enough in it to do several touch up jobs and it wears quite well. I also got some of their foaming cleaner which is brilliant, and some sealant spray which I've as yet not had time to use as it needs to dry overnight but is supposed to be like the stuff they put on sofas to prevent dirt build up.

well ive ordered something from them, absolutely no idea what but it cost £35 odd quid. but i said i wanted something to clean and condition the seats and also a scuff master thing to repair some damage and that what they said to buy. whatever "that" is .... :D

they are going to phone back if there is a problem with the colour, i just said it was leather oregan beige. they said is it a browney colour and said not really its quite light but not an off white (which it the champagne) and they seemed happy enough

Use this link to find the official colour and tell them that as they could send you something off colour otherwise:
