Leaks!

Hello all,

Has anyone had any issues with leaks in Coupés?

I've discovered literally standing water in the left hand side of the car behind the seat.

I'm still trying to soak it up but fear I may have to remove the seat and carpets.

Anyone out there had any serious leaks? If so where were they and how did you fix them?
Any thoughts re. seat and carpet removal?

Leaking car a major issue since U.k based?

ohhhh nooo....... this was a known issue with the coupés.... its so bad on some cars, the owners hire a fire engine to pump it out.... even on dry sunny, hot days..... they come out to their cars and it would be full to the top of water....

no in all seriousness...... this isn't a common issue, do a quick search but it tends to be the roadsters that are leaky, The usual spots seem to be the door membranes, and from so vent in the trunk. Either way i agree in the UK especially with the rainfall weve had of recent, this would be of a major concern to me!
 
Door membranes as above, so coupes are going to be affected. Also the door seals have been known to cause leaks.
 
Have you been driving through much of the standing water we've had on the roads this year? Once water gets besides a normally dry rubber seal, capillary attraction can then create a leak. The fact that you say it's the left side of the car where you've got the water suggests that water might have been getting in via the seal at the bottom of the door from repeatedly driving through standing water at the kerbside of the road.

We need boats at the moment. :cry:

What is a "so" vent ?

I found a damp spot the size of a grapefruit in my boot,i wasnt sure whether is was ingress or something that had been put in the boot that was damp ?

It seems to have dried up now..

But has AGM battery,so wouldnt leak i would have thought ???

The damp spot was in an odd place...On level with battery,between battery cover and back panel...

it seems to have gone now,and the rain we have had over the last few days has been incredible...

I had some beer bottles in the boot,perhaps they had condensation on them ?
 
i never get these leaks on my car as its dry stored and 99% keeps dry....... but ive spotted loads of potential nightmare spots, particularly on the roadster..

I'm nothing thinking of leaking from the battery, more water from under the car travelling up the vent pipe if it's not attached to the battery.

If the "dew point" occurred (low temperature and high humidity) then condensation does occur on impervious surfaces in enclosed spaces.
 
Mine's left outside 24/7/365 and hasn't had any leaks - I also find it's much better in wet conditions or standing water than any of the newer BMWs/MINIs I've had as courtesy/loan/hire cars.

The Mini Cooper Countryman SD I had this week whilst mine was in for an I2 didn't seem to like wet roads, never mind standing water. It also only managed 43mpg (official combined is 63mpg) on the 60 mile trip compared to the 31mpg of my Z4MC. Think I'll stick with the Z4 :thumbsup:
