Leaking injectors (added Photos)

A while back I was having hot starting issues. If I drove the car and let it sit for 1 hour plus, I would have to keep the starter engaged longer than usual for the car to start and when it did it would run rough for 10 seconds or so before smoothing out. If it sat overnight it would start right up.

Anyway with advice from several sources I replaced all 6 injectors with VDO brand injectors. It started great in all situations...for a couple of weeks. Then the same starting problem arose.

Assuming one of the new injectors was leaking I pulled the fuel rail, leaving the injectors attached, put manila folder under them and cycled the key a couple of times to get the pump to cycle. Checking the paper I found that the #4 injector had a circle of fuel leaking onto the paper. #2 left a smaller mark. I had ordered one replacement injector so I replaced #4. So far, so good but if the problem reoccurs I will replace #2 as well.

Just thought I’d report on how I determined which injector was leaking. The manila folder was sturdy enough to hold up under the weight of the fuel rail and the leaking fuel showed up easily. I took a photo but it is still on my phone. I might post it here...a picture is worth a thousand words.

The second photo is the leaker for sure #4. The 1st one shows a mark from #2 but as you can see it is not as wet as #4. I don't know if that was just a drop hanging onto it or if it is just a slow leaker. The car starts as it should, hot, cold, long wait or short wait...Time will tell for #2 injector.
