Anyone driving down to Le Mans this year??? I making my first trip down there :driving: so any pointers would be muchos appreciated.

I hear Friday morning is awesome and the place to be is by the champagne bar :P

Going down again this year been driving down on the Friday for years sadly not in the Z this year  as we are going 4 up so my mates taking the wifes people carrier but the money i will save splitting everything 4 ways (was almost going alone and would have cost me over 1k with hotel) can be spent on my Z :D clear headlights maybe :D .

Do not know the champagne bar even though i have been going since 1995 most likely been passed or had a drink in there without knowing :D .

The run down DO NOT i repeat DO NOT go mad very big fines and banned on the spot and never use a mobile even in traffic and dont even think about using a radar for speed cameras just cruise down around 90 and should be fine the limit is 85mph.

Normally stop at Gace for lunch on the Friday lots of classics but going over Thursday morn this year so gonna drive non stop only 4hrs.

Friday morning there is the Great British Welcome in St Saturnin supposed to be very good (This year they are celebrating 50 years of the E.Type )

Follow this by the pit walk Friday afternoon then into Le-Mans old town for the parade around 6pm then a few bars.

Arnage town used to be good on Friday lots of burnouts but the Cavs have killed this and its all been stopped it does go on elsewhere but its getting stupid tipping beers into peoples cars who wont do a burn out :x leave your Z parked up on the Friday night .

Check out Pistonheads loads of posts on there

Yep, I'm going this year :)

There's a thread for it in the meets/events section: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=24353

Cheers for all the info Gaza,

Champagne bar is by the Mousin straight (apologies if not spelt correctly). Going to drive down Thursday and sleep in the car for the weekend I think... not a fan of tents! Probably hang around until Sun night then drive back

My first drive to Le Mans but I hear the modern diesel engines are spoiling the fun (Audi, Pugs etc). Still looking forward to it though. Also driving down to Silverstone for the F1 this year and maybe taking the coupe to SPA for the Belgium GP later on in the year

Lucy - if you see a Montego blue coupe flashing xenons in your rear view mirror its me :driving: ! Going to vinyl the car up as well... not sure what yet though

Sleeping in the Z sod that used to sleep in my old Calibra every year (but i could fold the seats flat one year just got a parking pass )then grab a hotel for Sunday night real bed aircon and a shower very nice after a hot weekend sleeping in the car but the last few years had a hotel around 40 mins walk away via Arnage village for a beer break :D but its pot luck rooms do not come up until around 6 weeks before the race looks like we may be camping this year then hotel Sunday.

The diesel engine cars are quick but quiet as are a few of the cars compared to a few years ago not as load as i remember but still a great weekend and if i had the choice GP or Le-Mans it would be Le-Mans everytime.

Will be going to Silverstone this year first time since the days of Hill and Herbert looking forward to that also booked up for the Silverstone 24hr event in OCT and may be going to Spa the week before for the historic weekend.

I'm jealous of all those going!!!!.... but I've heard others say the chavs and yobs ruin Friday...last year I was there was 2007 and even then it was starting to get a bit out of hand.

Is the classic on this year? I'm considering doing this instead...

I would say for a fun drive, ditch the boring new toll (or not so new now lol) road, the A28, after you beat the traffic crossing Rouen and take the country roads ....much more fun....

Dave on the 07.50 tunnel Thurs morn we are camping in Bleu Nord then Hotel Sunday night.

This is the Hotel i am using https://www.hotel-bb.com/reservation-hotel/booking#step2?hotelId=0518&arrival=12/06/11&nightsNumber=1 they still have rooms for Sunday night.

This is the place i have stayed last two visits but for the whole weekend its a 40 min stroll to the circuit i know a few short cuts but this year i am not driving :( so we are camping will save some cash and less walking.

We will pack up Sunday morn then drop the car at hotel that way no ones worried about drink driving we can then come back watch the end of the race then have a stroll in the pits see the winning car and Hawaiian Tropic Girls :D then stroll back to hotel via Arnage for a beer then into Le-Mans for Sun night catch the end of the GP in a bar bit of grub then a few more beers nice way to end a weekend. :D

I'm going but as of yesterday I have sold the z4  just got a 1 series coupe at the moment so it will have to do!

The Champagne bar that we know is bang in the centre of the circuit village with a big grass area in front of it. We meet up there on the Saturday night.

It is well worth travelling down on the Thursday as Friday is a brilliant day. There is the superb "Great British Wecome" at St Saturnin just 10 mins out of Le Mans on Friday morning, then there has been a lunch time meet at Mulsanne village for the past two years, but that may be moving location this year. (you can check out the details on the Pistonheads Le Mans forum).

Then you have the Drivers' Parade late afternoon in town if that interests you, gets packed though.

Second the warning about the gendarmes, that's why we go cross country for the first part, bypass Rouen, then straight down the old N138 (now signed D438).

I won't be taking the new Z4 unless something untowards happens to the other one :)

(although the fuel economy is mighty tempting!)

We are on the Wednesday night ferry from Hull - Zeebrugge, returning Monday night.

Enjoy :)

Well looks like i may be taking the Z after all my mates been told he has to go on a course that week and cannot have the time off even though he booked it with HR WTF :o seems BMW treat the staff even worse than the customers annoying thing is we have booked everything up so i may have a spare GE Ticket available at a discount if i cannot get my Brother inlaw to go.

Have to get some covers for my seats camp sites can get very muddy/dusty.

Let you know on ticket mate but will let you have it a little cheaper if i end up going solo

Where you staying when in Le-Mans ?

Rouen we stayed in the Ibiz just across the river from the Old Town nice secure underground car park

Gaz - 4 of us are going in 2 cars, we're taking the early Thursday morning ferry [cheaper and taking non toll roads] and camping on site, will leave Monday am and take steady drivre back. I'm going in the Z4 coupe and my son will be in his 1 new series. This will be my 6th time, I reckon le mans beats F1 every time, but then i haven't done Monaco!

She'll be fine, ended having to have mine towed out the mud by a tractor at Spa!

We are staying at Houx Annexe, three cars so far. Will swap details nearer the time and meet up for a beer.

Just got to decide if 2 grandstand tickets to share are worth it and work out the best route down for a good drive.
