LCI upgrade next year.

A hybrid LCI warm over isn’t going to happen IMHO…

If they can’t work out whether to stick a manual in it (regression to simpler times)..then they ain’t going to muddy the waters in a LCI with what most purists would regard as work of the devil.. :poke:

They’ll reserve that for the next thing that follows the G29…whatever that is…unlikely to be a 2 seater rag top.. :tumbleweed:

I believe the engine setup on the eu cars and American cars is the same. It’s just a mapping difference.
Obviously the m4 engine has major differences.

Given that you can easily and quickly get a European B58 up to circa 420 BHP a LCI based on that proposition isn’t going to set the world alight..

Although either before then or at that point a re-map based tweak is inevitable…the marketing guys will want that

Not entirely true based on the information I got. The eu m40i uses the mid output B58TU1 engine with OPF and the U.S m40i uses the top output B58TU1 engine without OPF. That's why I talked about the difference between the mid and top output. Based on rumour, the reason of why eu m40i does not come with top output B58TU1 engine is that eu car must have OPF and by the time G29 is released, the top output B58TU1 engine was only ready without OPF. If OPF must be equipped, then the only available B58TU1 engine is the mid output engine. But now, the top output B58TU1 engine with OPF is ready and thus all m240i, m340i, and m440i come with that engine (all have MHT as well). This is also why I think during the LCI, BMW may put the top output B58TU1 with OPF into G29 m40i as well as giving it MHT considering the 2,3,4 are so closely related to G29.

M4 (latest generation) uses S58 engine which is kind of based on the top output B58TU1 engine (so, non integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head design) with some further heavy modifications (e.g two turbos vs. single turbo, two high pressure fuel pump vs. single high pressure fuel pump and further more). However, I doubt that the S58 will be put into G29 by BMW anytime during the lifetime of G29 (in production until late 2025).
