LCD, LED or Plasma? Which TV?

Having sat and tried out a full HD LED tv today, I'd now say go for LED.

Wow, a very very amazing picture!

Better than both plasma and lcd.

I've finally gone for the Pioneer PDP-5090 50" plasma - well impressed with the quality especially in HD. Found the LCD/LED tv's to lack colour quality and look a bit flat in comparison particularly in standard def. The LED's are superb in HD but have really poor sound quality and I can't be bothered to fire up the full system every time I just want to watch the news etc.

Had it delivered yesterday and think I've made the right decision.

I bought a Pioneer 42" plasma nearly 3 years ago, what a fantastic tv.Really pushed the boat out, did loads of research and havn't regretted it once. :D

Best quality is the Pioneer Plasma, but they are seizing production soon. Second best is Panasonic after that.

Good resource is avforums.com

I would swap those two around :D but 42" and above plasma without a doubt

Well I have a 60 inch KDS-60A2000 Sony LCD TV and 5.1 surround stereo sound in my media room. I have a daughter and friends who have Plasma systems. Both types have very good picture quality running at 1080 high res. After doing as much study and observation my comments are that the LCD, has better and more realistic flesh tones and better color balance overall. On most of the Plasma TVs I have seen all people look like they have extreme tans. The owners and I have adjusted them with no improvements. Also unless you get plasma with a very fast processor, you will see slight ghosting when things move very quickly on the screen. The number of viewing hours before failure is lower with plasma than it is on LCD systems. Plasma systems are slightly more expensive with a shorter life. Most that I looked at in the showroom and in homes have a kind of glassy appearance to the screen like there is a very reflective glass over the display itself. Kind of like the old computer monitors before the flat panel displays came out. In a home living room the reflected images was distracting to me.

My study was done about 3 years ago so consider that fact in what I say. I suspect that new plasma systems have improved but when I got mine I felt the LCD was the more cost effective TV for home use.

Having owned the Pioneer 5090 now for a few weeks, I have to say the quality is amazing. When I compare with mates' tv's such as Sony, LG and Panasonic, I don't think they get anywhere near the quality. Even the new V10 Panasonic sets I don't think match the Pioneer. That seems to be echoed all around the AV forums - and believe me I reckon I've been on them all!! I've even bored myself now with my obsessiveness!!

Like with all 50" sets, standard def tv is never going to be great but this one is more than adequate, but when you watch a Blu-ray disc, wow!

To add to this, I had my plasma professionally calibrated to get all the colours 100% accurate. Costs about £200 or so, but it makes all the difference.

Can only be done after 100 hours use though.
