Yes, could be tempted by that myself. Any chance you could let us know a rough cost? Thanks

The post just before yours...

wasn't a black or silver roof an option on the LCI models? least this way if you get board it will just peel off

Reminds me of the black feux leather vinyl roof on my 1976 TR7. And the mirrored sun roof was the give away though.

Cool looking car. The TR7 is about the only car that sticks in my mind from when I was young. Didn't know anybody that had one but remember seeing them around.

I’d do the same if I had a light coloured car. Looks impressive! Also interested in what you were charged as thinking of doing something similar to another car?

You have a few random bikes in there if they are listed as you owned them like the AE80 and the KDX200.
Out of that list I had 2 of them, an 89 RWB FZR 1000 Exup and a 96 TDM

Well there was a lot of overlap..towards the zenith (around 1995-2000) I had 6 bikes in the garage.. CBR/FZR/TDM/Transalp/KDX/Duck/ one in France AE80..

Got in to green laning, hence the AE80, they said I was too small for it..so got an XR600..wanted to go two up geen laning, added a Transalp etc..it all seemed very logical at the time..

From around 1980 onwards the multiple bike scenario just grew and grew..

Still compared to my Uni pal and his father and 3 other brothers had around 100+ Ariel/BSAs that's obsessive..

Pbondar worked you way through lots of Diamonds were you changing them as the gear boxes failed :o
Another machine with crappy mechanics.
See you went two engined reliability at the end with trusty old Islander.

Hi flybobbie, well its a long story, the short version was:

Yes we had lots of teething issues with the DA42s, the gearboxes were not an issue, save that when the engine manufacturer went into administration they started charging the price for new gearboxes rather than swapping then out FOC as was originally sold..as they could not get to TBO of the engine without being swapped out.

The clutches were the worst part of the original design along with asking the poor 1.7 original engine to do a sustained 135 BHP..

The 1.7 unit suffered from thermodynamic stress allied to piston oil cooling nozzles that had a a habit of breaking off.. once the 20l unit came along the issues largely disappeared..

We battled our way through all the various air-frame/engine issues so by 2014 we had 11 DA42s operating..we ranged with them from the US Pacific coast, through Europe, the whole of Africa and the middle east and onto into India.

We broke the back of the reliability issues and could take these babies all the way to south Africa etc and back and do 200-300 hours work without any real dispatch or reliability issues..

In contrast the Islander in its 3 year reign consumed more money than the 11 DA42s, despite doing only 250 hours over 3 years versus about 3000-4000 fleet ours for the DA42s..reliability and availability was terrible..

Factory support for the BN was shocking, slow and very expensive.. its one attribute which we couldn't replace was its payload lift capability hence why we had to use it..

As they say..your experiences may be different..

Pbondar your first foray on two wheels a Triumph Tina !!! I wonder how many know what one of those are, a friend of mine's mum had one in the sixties. My list of bikes which I wont bore anyone with now stands at thirty nine at the moment (and counting)
