Really disappointed with it this year. Used to be a firm favourite of the family but its been hijacked by the US.
American conductor, soprano and songs from Wizard of Oz. WTF?
Nigel Kennedy brilliance as ever.
Where was the fun of the sea shanties? Why don't we hear "Jerusalem".
Isn't it supposed to be a celebration of the proms but also a last night patriotic bash?
Sad now...... :(

They're trying to make it popular, forgetting that its original format was what made it popular. A shame but ce la vie.

Oh! I was at work but recorded it, saddened to hear that it might not be so good this year! Love the last night, would be amazing to be there

I heard it unless my 'aged' ears were deceiving me. Agree with all your other comments.

Yes you are correct but we didn't join in as we kind of just stared at the box wondering WTF was going on. I was a bit naffed off and had had a couple of sherberts by then. Hence the post this morning, ahem.........

Yep. So they can make money by selling it elsewhere. This years Edinburgh Tattoo was the same!
I'm not "a british bulldog" but some things shouldn't be messed with.....

They year of 9-11 the last night was a couple of nights after the terrorist attack and it was an american conductor - they changed to programme to include Barber Adagio for Strings and still had all the British pomp and ceremony - maybe this year they just got it wrong

Absolutely agree - was astonished when the American women devoted her entire speech to promoting the femanist agenda when about two thirds of the orchestra and chorus a couple of feet behind her were women!..... and when will they understand that a soprano can not sing Rule Brittania.
That's the BBC.

I enjoyed it nevertheless - but it was a bit limp!

It is a British occasion that our US cousins enjoy - How long before we have the "Macdonalds" last night of the proms? It was a bit US biased last night.

+1 for why no sea shanties!
