Las Vegas - Give me some local advice!!!

Hello All,

I am off to Las vegas in August (27th) for 10 nights in the MGM Grand.

Went last year with the friends for our 21st while on a road trip.

This year we are all going back but just to do Vegas, so what I am looking for is things to do as I know some of you lot on here are locals!

I have done the Gun range (will be going back again, I want to fire the grenade launcher and machine gun) outlet malls, most of the hotels.

Recommendations on clubs/strip clubs, attractions and places to eat, would also be good because i found the "buffets" utter shite.

Is there anywhere also that we can hire some bikes for a day or two (proper bikes Harleys or something?)

Thanks!

Jack

Aebous is currently in Vegas, frequently on here, and being young and single, should be able to point you towards the better (In)decent places. :D

The indecent places are real real bad bad....lots of money go to uhm anyways

Before I say anything, I recommend http://www.yelp.com they have user submitted reviews (plain clothes people, you & me, etc) that submit reviews for places to eat, drink, party etc. I've used there site/iphone app several times and it has never steered me wrong when looking for a place to eat (how I found CJ's Texas BBQ).

Food,
CJ's Texas BBQ best damn BBQ i've had in Vegas
If you amazingly want a little taste of the south (decent but not great) there is a chinese place (yes Chinese) that sells Crawfish/Shrimp boiled. It's fairly good, especially if you've never had crawfish before, but for those of us raised on em, it's adequate  That place is called "Hot & Juicy Crawfish"
For steak, if you want to pay a big chunk of cash (not cheap about 48 bucks a steak :o but oh so good) I recommend Smith & Wollensky's (sp?)

For clubs, hell any are good :P The Voodoo lounge on top of the Palms (or is it the RIO?) is my favorite. Rain & Moon are also good, they had new one open up in the section of the Wynn, very nice club is named XS. There is so many clubs/bars, yeah check yelp. Those I mentioned are my preferences.

I'm pretty sure there are places to rent proper hogs, you might be able to at the harley shop right on the strip. I'll ask a friend, he'll know.

Hmm titty bars....well I haven't been to them all, i'm just not rich enough to :P
Note: Topless = drinking
Full Nude = No alcohol inside the premises - of course if you drink before hand that's ok

I haven't been to hardly any shows (on my to-do list), some of the better ones (not counting the free shows the casinos have on the hour) that I've heard is The Blue Man Group, Circa de soul, Zumanity. I liked walking through "Bodies: The Exhibition" I thought it was neat, seeing all the innards & outers of the human body, but it's not for all. Not a show really but I guess thats why they call it the Exhibition.

Spearamint Rhino is a great Topless place, lots of girls and big areas
Little Darlings is a great full nude, again pretty girls, IMO friendlier too probably due to they know guys will be a little less drunk
The library - decent girls, decent atmosphere, but maybe I just went on a bad night
Seamless (part club/strip club) decent girls decent atmosphere
And that's my knowledge unless there was drunken moments where I don't remember going in....it could happen....might explain that lost $100

Supposedly (I honestly have no idea) the Chinese 24 hour massage parlors are "happy ending" massages
Any prostitution is illegal within Clark county (Vegas Area) but about 45 minutes north is Pahrump and other places with legal brothels. I've never been as I'm not willing to spend my cash on a few seconds er hours of fun. Especially when it's so easy to find girls in the clubs. Heh though with Vegas drink prices on the strip the other way might be cheaper

For scenery, if you can make it out to Red Rock Canyon is very nice (about half my car pics are from there). Valley of Fire is very nice. Mt Charleston is a little ways away too if you want to go to someplace where the temperature will be below 90 degrees (mountain/forest area). Cause your coming late August, I want to say it'll just start dropping below 90 degrees fareinheit at night about that time.

I'm sure I'll think of more, and other people that have traveled here will think of more too but I have to go for the moment.
OH Important thing....if you didn't figure it out before, don't gamble here, you just lose your money.

Great write up AEB! All I can attest to is Red Rock Canyon ROCKS! And Blue Man Group seems to be a very popular show (the Venetian is a great casino/hotel too - my fav).

Please, Please, Please, DO gamble while you are here. The local economy needs your money and I need to sell or rent out this house someday :D

I've been to Las Vegas a few times. Stayed at the Bellagio twice and the Venetian. I went in August last year and the heat in the daytime was almost unbearable :poke: It was still red hot at night too.

Perhaps take a helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon? I did this and it was pretty good
Also go up the top of the Stratosphere Tower for the rides on top (kinda scary at 1000ft in the air but i enjoyed it)
The forum shops at Caesars Palace are great.

Oh and there is a ' so s**t that it's good' gift shop down towards the Stratosphere end of the strip (largest gift shop in the world apparently) that sells all kinds of random and funny crap that you may want to take home for a laugh.

As for food, i reccomend The Irish Pub at the New York New York hotel (the rollercoaster that goes around the hotel is pretty cool too)
Joe's restaurant at The Forum in Caesars.

I'll second what she said about the gift shop (it's on the corner of Sahara & Las Vegas Blvd easy to see) & the coasters. I've ridden almost every one that's on the strip and the coaster in New York New York is the best IMO followed by the one at the Sahara. The Stratosphere rides are fun too because your so high up, but if it's too windy they close it down.

Also I forgot to mention, for around $100-150 you can go do tandem sky dives not too far off the strip. There is also lots of places to rent dune buggy's and other items along those lines (I still don't know about motorcycles). You can rent Z4's too, or a Ferrari, or a few other exotic cars. (Hint - rent one from the shop in Caesars and you'll get a Ferrari girl to go with you)

Definitly walk around The Forum at Caesars palace if you haven't before.....extremely beautiful there.
But yeah, temps will be around 100 F, probably at night too. Dry heat my ass.

My buddy Scott seconds the notion on the IRISH PUB at NYNY. He is a fellow pilot, but Chef by formal education, and says the food there is incredible

Thanks Aoeb and others!

As I say I went last year and did the Cirque Du Soleil and stratosphere etc so I was looking for the other random suggestions which I have now got plenty of! BRILLIANT :D

The Thai massage parlour was hit up last year and you are right it always finished with a happy ending although my friend was sure they robbed him

Where can I get these Dune buggies from?

Last time i didn't gamble too much I came out $150 down which wasn't too bad. A friend of mine was down $1000 the first 2 hours we were there then came back $1500 that night. However we were playing poker so a little easier to win if you are decent.

Food suggestions seem good so going to try the Irish Bar and Wollenskys.

Has anyone bee to Tryst or is it just a load of Hype?

Thanks again you knowledgeable lot!
